Media How Merab Dvalishvili HUMBLED Umar Nurmagomedov

jfc @ dagestani haters when they latch on to a decision win where Umar only lost by a point in a decision on two scorecards and did better than Yan, Cejudo, Aldo and O'Malley even though he's not even 30 yet.

Umar will be champ. By the time he fights Merab again Merab will be 36.

I don't disagree with you. But there is something about Umar (and Usman) that I don't enjoy the way I do the rest of the Dagi crew. They are very talented but it just feels like they let the last name act like they had already made it than the other fighters over there.

The scorecards are part of the story.

I have no idea how many here have actually fought. Have been through a camp, have pushed your body so hard in training and then cut weight that by the time they fight comes you're just relieved it's gonna be over soon.

For those who have (and I only did it twice...vs other regional nobodies--not like Merab/Umar who are the best guys on earth) you KNOW what it's like when you're in there (and that means sparring, rolling, anything) with someone and you're exhausted and they aren't. That feeling...THAT is ABSOLUTELY humbling. IDGAF who you are. When you have nothing left in the tank and the other guy does, it's a helpless feeling. And that's what Umar was. An exhausted kid that assumed his skill would dominate that found out that none of it matters if you're gassed and your opponent isn't.

How did he do better than O’Malley?? Scores were the same

Umar has very strong cardio though. The difference is Merab has retard cardio, but all good things come to an end, cardio is the first thing to go and Merab is getting older. By the time they fight again that one point on the scorecards in Merab's favour by the judges may be 3 points in Umars favour.

Sure, very well could be. But being tired when your opponent isn't feels like drowning. That's likely how Umar felt and maybe for the first time. And that IS humbling.

You mean you rewatched it and scored all the rounds for Merab?
I think merab lost round 2 and even that round was very close. I think for sure you can give merab 1 3 4 5. There should be no controversy doing this.

Very competitive fight with a very clear winner, you need to give Umar a lot of charity for a 3-2 scorecard

Did you actually watch those fights?

O'Malley was gifted points from judges in that fight. Umar did much better.

I disagree. Aside the first two rounds, Umar got pretty much dominated. Sean at the least kept the fight competitive to the end and actually hurt Merab late in the fight. And Sean got taken down and controlled, but didn't take much damage, Umar took way more. Umar had success early and then faded. Sean had a pretty much even round 1 and won rounds 3 (close) and 5 (round 5 clearly)

Umar was clearly winning round 5 until the big punch at the end and that's after breaking his hand early in the fight. He'll be the favorite again when they rematch.

I almost universally hate Dagestan fighters and relish in them losing (except Islam).

It’s so funny to see their fake humble arrogance get crushed and hear their excuses. It’s certainly more exciting than watching any of their fights (except islam).

Still, Umar looked good early and Merab is what, 36 now? If Umar can continue training hard and push his cardio to the next level, it’s winnable for him possibly. It wasn’t a lack of skill, he just faced one of, if not the best cardio in UFC history. Merab is incredible but father time is undefeated and it’s probably a huge lesson for a young and hungry guy with a great camp. Don’t rule Umar out yet
