How is Bo gonna fix his deficiencies

Olivera is an anomaly. I wish you didn't bring up Do Bronx. UFC making Olivera fight 4 months after getting KO'd by Topuria is so disgustingly sad.

The matchmakers that set up this fight are evil bastards.

Nah that's on Oliveira, it seems he went out of his way to ask for the fight because he knows it's one of his last chances to be the main event in Brazil. I really doubt UFC pressured him into anything. He should've fought someone like Gamrot instead though who is much less likely to knock him out than Fiziev.

Go to Thailand and get kicked in his shit a thousand times until he can stop being just a wrestler, then send him to Dagestan to learn how to make his wrestling useful.

Bo has zero striking acumen and a wrestling game that he cannot implement against people with TDD that punch him in the face hard. The end

Ugh Bo Nickal. What a joke he is. He could have just been a normal fighter but the UFC had to hype him to the moon and try so damn hard to push him for some reason no one can understand. This man was NEVER at any point in time a top 10 prospective fighter in the UFC. They even TRIED to give him the most winnable stylistic match up for him in RDR, A BJJ guy who has bad striking and Bo still got eaten alive. Even guys who are much better fighters relaltive to their divisions like Ignacio bahamondes never got a push despite being overall better fighters who are more exciting.

Bo is already old, Already Exposed and already written off as a middle of the pack guy at best. There are actual good prospects they can market like Mansour Abdel-Malik, Wellmaker, Jacobe smith, Farid Basharat. all undefeated. All look better than Bo Nickal in fights. But none get a push like Bo Nickal. They'll probably keep wellmaker on the prelims some more for some stupid reason like they did with Taira. If Gore and Marc andre Bariault dont get cut, Expect Bo to fight them in a fight night co-main event, Or PPV opener that Bo simply doesn't deserve.

He's not even a main roster guy ... more like NXT

And yet, he some how gets to be on the main card of UFC 300. Completely tarnishing that card forever. a complete and total insult to the fanbase, And every single fighter on that card placed below him.

He got kneed in the liver
he quit before that

RDR was way too much way too soon.
Also Probably true. but this is the match up that he called for, and stylistically speaking, It should have been favourable. I think if hes going to continue to fight, they should give him a semi hard top 20 match up to see if he's real at all. I think something like Robocop, Muniz or hermanson if he's still alive a part of me thinks he doesn't fight again.

He's still a phenomenal wrestler; he did take RDR down, afterall. But yeah he is far away from being among the elite imo. He really needs to put his wrestling on the backburner after his RAF competition and focus on his striking imo. His ground game is already strong; foucsing soley on stand up with maybe some ground work to stay tuned up is what I'd fathom would serve him best at this point.

Whittaker is a very solid opponent, but well past his prime. Despite the razor thin loss, he nearly murdered RDR. I don't even think people would have complained if the fight was stopped.

I juxtapose RDR absolutely beating the shit out of Bo in striking exchanges, with Whittaker clearly being a superior overall striker to RDR.

He wrecked Bo with kickboxing.

No doubt RDR is world class and the win ages well, but that was a stylistically hand picked fight (Bo publicly stated he asked for RDR) and he got mollywhopped.

Doesn't bode well IMO.

Man Cormier was a natural though. He's a fighters fighter and had that in him. No doubt Bo is a great athlete but I don't see him having that level of toughness.

You could hit DC with a 9 iron.
Can't imagine Bo coming back from shots like those from Rumble and Gus.

He doesn't pass the eye test, but people in this thread are hyperbolic. RDR beat him up beautifully, but RDR is going to whoop a lot of a$$ in the UFC.

So, all that to say, I'm not sure, but I do lean towards Bo having a much earlier exit from MMA than what he thought. Next fight should be revealing since he is obviously going to take a step down in competition. I'll reserve judgement until then.

Honestly towards the end when Bo was taking damage from RDR, he did turn up and look like a fighter and showed aggression until he got finished. He has power in his hands too. RDR was very underrated, so that loss could look better in time.

There's been plenty of wrestlers with power who pick up mma quick even with low level by keeping their opponents guessing for punches or takedowns. Bo's issue is the threat, he's way too hesitant for a wrestler. The way he gets guys down is too much energy for him and his wrestling hasn't translated yet to where his opponent's expect to be on their back. Seems like when guys back up to the fence, his style costs too much energy for a small takedown.

Also in between his wrestling shots, his waiting style doesn't work. He should be pressuring more to take guys down and when they start biting low go up top with power shots. He doesn't need to be a great striker to put some fear into his opponents. Improving his striking the best he can would be best. Needs to close his camp and go to Dagestan to work chain wrestling and BJJ defense. A guy like Robocop would be a nightmare matchup for him.

There is nothing special about fighting on that Brazil card. UFC goes to Brazil like twice a year, he could just wait for the next card.

doesn't matter that Olivera wants to fight. Fighters need to be protected from themselves. Most fighters have very low IQ, look how low they get paid, and think about how easy it would be for them to get paid insane amounts of money.

UFC don't care about givin Olivera unnecessary CTE, they just need to fill a slot of having a popular local guy on the card.

Yeah, the timing of his next fight is questionable but he probably insisted on it.

I'm wondering if he might be considering retirement soon and wants to quickly slip in a few more fights.

To answer TS's question, I'd give Bo some secret juice and send him to Vale Tudo

Any of the OGs remember Rulon Gardner and Kole Conrad (he retired undefeated but did so quickly at 10-0 i believe)

Sometimes the stellar wrestling accolades don't transfer 1:1 in terms of guaranteed success when striking is involved

styles make matchups and RDR has some world class knees. next guy won't be able to do that to him, most likely.

bo needs to upgrade his striking quite a bit but so have a lot of other guys who've done quite well without it. let the dude have at least one more fight before declaring him a bum. a lot of the shitting on him right now is because people have been looking forward to doing it for so long.

Zero striking leaves you in a really bad place if you cant get the takedown nowadays.....15 years ago we would have been a champ.

What is he good at? was watching the derider fight and he doesn’t look like he has any glaring advantages over any other fighter. Khabib for example has a titanium chin and was a good wrestler with cardio for 10 rounds.
He's a multiple time NCAA champion wrestler and borderline olympic caliber. So his strength is wrestling, but it looks like he hasn't fully completed his transition to MMA. I'd say he needs to sharpen his MMA wrestling and work on his timing in the striking department.

At 29, he still has plenty time. Assuming he fights twice a year, in 6 fights in three years, if he wins them all he'd be 32 and potentially in the running for a title shot. He just bit off more than he can chew with the RDR match up. I think he'll be fine.

I don't like the Pro-wrestling side project, though. He needs to be all in on MMA.
