How insane is the future going to be?

I’m almost 30. I don’t see any significant changes. No cure for cancer and life expectancy will continue to do down; however, if there was ever a miracle cure for cancer it will never be made available and affordable to the public.

Too many people profit off the sick and dying.
Only 30 and already so pessimistic?
(not that i disagree with anything you said)

I think a lot of younger people are kind of sleeping on the reality that is unfolding. Humanity is at a tipping point. We will either kill ourselves off or enter a singularity.

Technology is going to keep advancing more rapidly. It's not going to slow down. One day the big one is going to happen(perfect AI/quantum computing) and it'll speed up to an invomptehisible level.

How old are you and what do you think you will see accomplished in your life time? Immortality? Faster than light travel?
When I was younger, we were supposed to have flying cars and shit by now. Nothing's gonna change except your phone will be smarter. I wish man, I wish, but it just won't. Getting older and more sober has drilled that into me.

This technological singularity bullshit is mostly just in the realm of crazy people, potheads, and people looking for an easy escape to their mediocre life, like some people seek out a religion. A few smart people believe it, sure, but a few smart people also believe in all kinds of crazy shit like Christianity.

Transportation
This supersized drone will fly you to work (or anywhere)
The "184" is a delivery drone for humans.

It's happened. Someone built a quadcopter big enough to carry human cargo. The future is officially here, and it's kinda scary. Scary in the cool way, though. The same company that brought us the regular-sized Ghost drone has just announced the "184" Personal Flying Vehicle (PFV). It's about the size of a (very) small car, and claims to be able to deliver one human (up to 260 pounds) anywhere within a 10 mile/23-minute flight time reach. A working prototype of the autonomous craft is being shown at CES, and we're pretty excited. If a little skeptical

Awesome. So now there will be so much traffic in the skies from drones, personal flight vehicles, Amazon delivery drones, etc. that they will block out the sun. We'll clog up the sky just like we clog up the roadways.

Yes - the future will be pretty insane.

My thoughts on the topic -

The blockchain and cryptocurrency become truly mainstream - at the expense of fiat money and traditional stock markets.

Radical life extension technology makes breakthroughs that make us question the very nature of mortality, people like Aubrey de Grey are taken much more seriously.

Self driving cars start becoming commonplace on city roads.

Personal home robots start taking their place in mainstream society.

Automation becomes exponential, human jobs start disappearing at an alarming rate - the need for concepts such as Universal Basic Income becomes evident.

Massive breakthroughs in AI and machine learning, leading to debate over how we prepare for the coming of true artificial general intelligence (and for the first time in a long long time, not being the number 1 species on the food chain).......and whether we can circumvent the existential threat risk this poses.

The hyperloop project starts bearing fruit.

We live our lives consulting super smart algorithms run by tech giants like Google and Facebook. These algorithms know us better than we know ourselves as they run off massive social databases mixed with detailed insight about our private biometric and cognitive data. Therefore humans begin to lose individuality and liberal 'I know best' thinking and we slowly give up our rights and autonomy in exchange for having the 'perfect' decisions made for us.

And all of the above happens much faster than we can get a handle on because of the exponential growth of technology.

Famine and a lack of freshwater, hundreds of millions of people on the move. Depleted oceans and mass extinctions.

If I live to see a real life robert cop putting criminals in their place then that is a future worth staying alive for...

UK doesn't profit off the sick and dying. Any country with socialized healthcare/medicine as really no motivation to sit on or bury cancer cures.

Immortality through stemcell? I doubt it.
Faster than light travel? I would be dead the moment it comes out.

But trust me, the moment technology and AI become more advance than our thinking and abilities is the time ordinary people lose their jobs.

The only thing that has changed in the last 20 years I’ve been alive is ps2 to ps4 and CD players to Bluetooth in cars. Don’t expect anything major, the wheels of beaurocracy keep people paid.

Those are the only things that have changed? You must have missed the advent of the internet then. But surely you can't have, as you are using it to type your post.

I just want to ride a flying car before i die. Even though i hate flying. Im scared of it

Advent of internet was before my time. I was around 9 years old when my parents were dialing up internet.

Also, we have to realize, the rate at which Mother Nature is changing, and the rate at which technology is changing. I feel like Mother Nature will get us before any technology can make a major impact. I’m an engineer, but I feel like the rate of technology expansion is over exaggerated
