How insane is the future going to be?

Advent of internet was before my time. I was around 9 years old when my parents were dialing up internet.

Also, we have to realize, the rate at which Mother Nature is changing, and the rate at which technology is changing. I feel like Mother Nature will get us before any technology can make a major impact. I’m an engineer, but I feel like the rate of technology expansion is over exaggerated

I struggle to see you as an engineer with that view.

Do you look back beyond your few years on this planet and see the pace of change in the last hundred years compared to all recorded history prior?

The advances in indoor plumbing and toilets, the auto mobile, the industrial revolution, robots in factories, black and white tv to colour tv's to tv's you can roll up and out.

Coming

- self driving cars
- mag lev or Hyper loop trains
- space flight travel for normal people
- continued AI
- personal robots

and so much more.

Not sure how you can not see the pace of change has not just been immense over the last 100 years but its escalating.

Inevitably, we will have the same future the dinosaurs had.

Which is to say, no future at all.

Nature is changed because of technological impact post the industrial revolution. And ironically, the only way to save us from nature imploding on us is major technological progress (eg. New sources of energy, new ways to combat global warming, etc).

I believe before that time comes we will have already sent out a "generation ship", a massive long distance space station with over 100 people on. Capable of lasting many generations. It'll have a massive garden for growing plants, maybe even some animals, and humans of multiple races. They will start new on a different Earth like planet

I don’t see flying cars coming anytime soon, but electric cars will become cheaper, better and more commonplace.

We will start using thumb, face and voice recognition technology a lot more, as a gimmick mostly.

I don’t see any major changes happening. Us humans tend to be set in our ways, so if anything we will just continue to evolve what we already have, as opposed to bringing out something radically new.

It took 50yrs from the birth of powered flight to us landing on the moon, but according to you we are set in our ways?

I have a device I'm using right now that can do the work of a country 100yrs ago gtfo with that nonsense.

Yeah, and we haven't done anything with the moon since then.

I'd LOVE a flying car, but no people will ever put down the infrastructure to make them common place. It will be a cool, niche gadget, that is all.

Our cars, planes, phones and other gadgets will have better performance due to advances in our electronics, but our world will primarily look the same.

We've been hearing about flying since cars had been invented.

UK doesn't profit off the sick and dying. Any country with socialized healthcare/medicine as really no motivation to sit on or bury cancer cures.
This is only true if politicians had the interest of average joes in their minds. Newsflash: they mostly don't.

Honestly though I think the big issue with flying cars is are they REALLY needed? its a very romantic concept that's always been popular as a result but what is the benefit actually going to be? for one thing any large volumes of traffic would likely mean your limited to certain flightpaths so your not much different to roads there.
