How good is MVP?

hE lOST tO mIkE pERry iN bkfc....

You guys do realize his biggest weapons are his kicks and knees right?

I think he just thought Perry was that bad he could beat him anyway, but I think if you let MVP use his kicks and knees he tools PMP on the feet.
Probably but Perry has finished a few people. That’s how Platinum Nation started.

I usually have a pretty good idea who will win most matchups. But I’m still wrong about 30% of the time. So I try to avoid making ridiculous predictions and statements most of the time. Because we just saw Alexa do it.

A cpl days ago I was bored and went back about 60 pages. It was funny to see how SURE most people were about that fight.

So I try not to make ridiculous claims that paint myself into a corner.

Ah, once you start doing Tap cards on the regular you stop caring anyway, there's nowhere to hide then.

Wonderboy’s ranking isn’t exactly correct though. Once you achieve a top 2-5 ranking you can lose several fights and just squat on that ranking.

Since 2018 he’s lost 4/7. Till, Pettis, Burns, and Belal. If I was in charge of the rankings he would not be in the top ten. His 3 wins are decent wins, but not crazy elite. Holland, Neal, and Luque. And about 3 years in the past 5-6 with only one fight per year.

But the main point still being is he achieved that high ranking. And it’s really hard to lose it once you achieve it in the UFC.

Do you think MVP could come into the UFC and get up to the top 2 to begin with? That’s the question you should have, imo.
Kind of. I think Rory/Hendricks would've been toughest for MVP to get on the same streak, but Hendricks didn't really look the same after losing the title and you have to consider its post-USADA. I think Masvidal, Luque, Neal, and Holland are doable for him. He needs the Pereira path, but yeah you make a good point.

Moments of greatness with many moments of mediocracy. If he trained wrestling he'd be really good. If he doesn't get an explosive finish he's done and if he makes any mistakes like in the lima fights, he's done. A bit of a glass cannon, but not to the degree of jimmy manuwa.

I don't know if it's fair to call him a glass cannon, he's only been KO'd once.

It’s like Tuivasa. He was ranked 11th iirc. He whooped Lewis then got bumped up to 3 I think. Now he’s lost 2 in a row to Gane, and Pavlovich. And he’s back down to 6th.

And O’Malley was around 11th too. And beat Yan.. Whether you agree with the decision or not. And he’s number 1 now. Ahead of Vera (4) who beat him.

It’s like moving up for a free TS in a heavier division. You can beat the champ, but that doesn’t mean you’d actually beat everybody, or anybody else in the top ten.

It’s a popular opinion to say GSP might have lost to at least a few top 10 MW when he beat Bisping. The only LW out of 4 fights that Conor beat was the champion Alvarez. He’s been finished in the other 3 fights.

And as you mentioned with Alex P. A relatively smooth route to the TS with Izzy. And it’s easy to understand why. But a fair number of people in here say he loses to the first good wrestler he fights. Which is entirely possible. With a gun to my head, I’d probably pick Whittaker to beat Alex. But, every fight he has gives him another 4-6 months to work on wrestling and tdd defence with Glover, etc.

I would have thought Gane would have been drilling the shit out of that after the Ngannou fight. But apparently he’s been playing an online soccer game for many hours everyday. I don’t even grasp that concept as someone that was and still is the number 1 contender. His priorities are messed up. And several people are shitting on Alexa as well. Edwards and Alex P, too. But a lot of that is coming from the fanbases those people beat to get the title. It’s not all sober reflection about the whole picture.

It’s not all black and white, imo. Not in here at least.

Cheers. Thanks for the thoughtful discussion.

Perry put him on his ass. He's a can crusher.

I don't even know if he'd crack the top 10 in the ufc to be honest. His style completely relies on being able to be left alone at his ranges to choose shots. Most if not all of the UFC top 10 has the ability to distance crush effectively.

I agree its not black and white, all about matchups. Rank system needs to get fixed somehow to make it more dynamic, as an mma fan I want to see guys get matched up with all sorts of stylistic match ups rather than just favorable.

Man ... People are so hard on em, he would do just as good as any other high level striker in his division and would face stylistic trouble against a grappler. MMA math isn't always right, his foundation is kicking, would've most likely beat Perry in Kickboxing. I think MVP could be top ten in the UFC for sure depending on his match-ups against a division stacked with high level wrestlers.
