Homegym MEGA Thread

I've never used a sandbag, am I correct that you put smaller bags of sand in them rather than just pouring in loose sand? Or no? I'm wondering about the feasibility of changing the weight in one. My son is getting interested in training and wants to "get in really good shape" for fall ball tryouts, so having something we both could use would be cool.
The first sandbag I ever made was just a duffel bag from an army surplus store, filled with 4 x 20kg bags of sand.
The sandbags these days specifically made for lifting, you just pour the sand in.

How old is he?

He's 11. I've got another couple years before he's bigger and stronger than me and I want to show him up at every opportunity until then.

At that age, I would just buy a 20kg bag of sand and wrap it in duct tape. No need to buy a proper sand bag.

Highly recommended getting a bag program going. The versatility for a few dollars is a good buy. Ebay has them for cheap, and they last. Very kid friendly and it doesn't matter if you drop them. As a gainz bonus your core and grip strength will improve. Humbling tool as well, the weight of a bag does not move like the weight of a bar.

Anyone play with the Earthquake bars? Inject some stability and balance drills into the basics to tighten up weak points.

No, I hang kettlebells or plates from the bar using bands and it achieves the same thing

Yeah but the effect is the same. Bar oscillates like crazy.
1st time tried to bench with the REP open trap bar that thing went to shaking like crazy. Could not find balance point to control it, until lowering weight to warm up range.

Admitted defeat on my seal row pad and GHD. No problems with the actual products, but seal rows never felt right and the GHD is just massive for my space. Going to replace them with a 45 degree back extension and the Rogue Hybrid bar.

You went with the rack mount pad, Bulldog or BoS? The $150 tag on the Bells is tempting but its one of those things would have to force it in routine.

It was the BoS version. Well built and functioned great, but the seal row movement didn't feel right. Tried doing it several different ways and couldn't get into it. Only having a squat stand didn't help either. Too much tear down/set up for me.

Bench on a couple boxes works perfectly. Especially if you have a cambered bar.
And the boxes can be used for many other exercises.

Also, 45 degree hyper > Glute Ham bench

Bit more involved than just slapping the attachment on and doing some bent rows. Did you try any of the lay-back DB flies or single preacher curls? Some of it looked like goofy sales pitch that was really uncomfortable.

I tried all of the different uses for it. Most of them probably feel better on an incline bench.

With you on that set up nonsense. If it takes moving stuff and rearranging, it may get used for a week then it's going to sit in a corner. Needs to be available and approachable right away.
Same reason got rid of the Concept rower. Those 15 seconds of strapping feet in / out was enough to not use it between sets.

You got rid of a concept rower because of that? Thats absolutely insane lol

I ordered the Rogue hybrid power bar about two hours ago. Just now saw that Texas Power Bar finally released their 29mm bar. Not sure if knowing about the TPB would have changed my mind, but I would have at least considered it. The stainless on Rogue's probably would be the tipping point vs. bare steel on the TPB

Rower deserves the space, throw out something else!

That's the fun reason to give out for shock factor. I got rid of it because my left knee clicks every time it bends 90 degree so rowing was mentally infuriating. Felt it every single rep. And I didn't like putting shoes on to row because barefoot workout is life.

Best part: put it up for sale mid pandemic on girlfriends FB, sold it in an hour for $400.
