As exciting as this fight would be I don’t like this. If Holloway wins it sets up Volk/Max 4 which no one wants…If topuria wins, he shuts down momentum for Holloway. All this for a paper belt.
Hey at least it’s the two best guys and not the 4 & 5 guy like Yair and Emmett.

I think you are jumping a step ahead. They've already booked Alex vs Islam. They need an opponent for Ilia. It's a very good fight. We don't know what will happen next so I understand why they would book the fight. As far as if Max wins and the possibility of Max vs Volk 4. I get why people wouldn't want it. It's only one fight if it happens and yes there is no guarantee Max wins the fight.

Man if we miss out on Volk vs. Topuria and get a fourth Holloway fight all because they decided have Volk be a last minute replacement, that would suck. I think they should have used their tabbed replacement in Gamrot, gone ahead with Volk/Topuria, then considered the rematch if they both won.

Yeah this makes no sense.

Scenario 1: Volk wins. He should have to vacate the FW belt and defend the LW belt because if he goes back to FW and loses to Topuria in Jan, it deligitimizes the LW belt and I'm sure they would book an immediate rematch, delaying the next LW belt fight. Knowing the UFC, they would just make another redundant LW Interim belt anyways.

Scenario 2: Volk wins, but takes a ton of damage and has to sit out a while. So now both LW and FW are held up.

Scenario 3: Volk loses and can't make January. Max and Topuria fight for the interim belt and Max wins. We get Max vs. Volk 4 which no one wants to see again.

Scenario 4: Volk loses and can't make January. Max and Topuria fight for the interim belt and Topuria wins. But if Topuria gets injured in the fight, then we are waiting even longer for the FW title unification fight.

Scenario 5: Best case for FW and LW is that Volk loses and doesn't take much damage (Ex: a quick sub), and can fight Topuria in January.
