Henry Should've Stayed Retired

Great thread and great replies. I will always support Cejudo slander/hate. Would pay good money to see someone punt that insufferable little twink across a football field.

He’s too small for bantamweight and can’t cut to flyweight. He’s fucked

Yeah he definitely hurt his legacy, but I think it was a bit of a sham if he would have retired after that win streak given the reality of the streak.
That six fight win streak is legendary on paper, but definitely inflated when you actually look at the circumstances of each of them. Decision against Mighty Mouse in a fight that could have been judged either way (after previously being finished by MM), beat Cruz and TJ at the end of their careers in controversial early stoppages and Cruz was coming off a four year layoff and was a late replacement (I think a month away), a win against an early career Sergio Pettis also looks better after Pettis' recent success, but back then it wasn't as special.
All good wins for sure (and beating Marlon Moraes before his downfall and late career Wilson Reis), but taking a discerning eye to them knocks them down a peg. The Mighty Mouse win is a deserved accolade as MM was still on top and a decision that could go either way means you are on that fighter's level for that fight, but it does mean less than a clear cut decision.

He’s gonna drop back down to 125 for his title run now. No song rematch. That or stay retired. I think he realized after tonight, the guys at 135 are just to big and strong. Even song, who is an athlete athlete, but he’s lost to the top of the division, so he is at the bottom of the top of the division, Henry was super undersized. Add into that Henry is 37? His 135 now isn’t the same as his 135 5 years ago. He doesn’t have the muscle he had in his prime. He will try and squeeze out a couple more fights at 125

He could've been a sure-fire UFC HOF'er and a GOAT combat athlete.

But these 3 losses may have tarnished his legacy BAD.
He's not a BW, he's a Flw. He beat Moraes, who hasn't? He also beat an aging Dom. He's a top 10 BW or at his best a top 5 BW. He's over the hill now, so it's basically over for him. He can continue collecting paychecks or go back to podcasting. He was a great Flw in his prime.

Dont see how stop working can lead to making more money, specially in your prime (maybe stupid blue collar mentality).

It's how he makes his money. I think once he found a wife and started making kids during his retirement, he realized he needs more money in his bank account. Anyways, His losses weren't that bad -- a close loss to the then champ Aljo, a loss to current champ Merab where he won a round, and a technical decision loss to top 10 Yadong who kicked him in the nuts and poked him in the eyes.

He isn't getting flatlined in these losses, or even dominated. He can still go out there and compete and make money if he needs it, and he probably does need it. The guy has a family to feed.

Henry wasn't getting paid much in the first place. You could say he overplayed his hand but that's in hindsight. Just look back to the whole Mighty Mouse situation where everybody was up in arms about him refusing to fight TJ without extra pay incentive.

Dana White and his legion of the fans on sherdog we're saying if mighty mouse fought TJ he would eventually get paid more just on that fact. Well Henry did exactly that and even some more and yet Dana refused to reward him handsomely.

Henry and his inactivity if anything is a casualty of UFC pay

I actually really enjoyed the fight. I thought he was doing pretty good considering his age and being the smaller guy. I’d even say this was his best performance out of the last 3. Aljo and Merab really stifled him but he was shining in this one. Lots of great striking exchanges.

Yup, agreed. Although his UFC resume was still very lacking, hadn't fought enough guys and no title defenses.

Retiring right after winning the belt in his prime was a stupid fucking thing to do for Henry.

He had all the momentum and ability to make huge fights.

Now he has lost all that and more.

He should've never originally retired. That time he took off while being "retired" is what killed his career.
Yes I agree with this. He could still be top tier if he didn't have so much time off.

He won't come back from this. Embarrassing.
