Not sure about the specifics of that case, but that generally illustrates the problem with trying to offload social welfare on private companies. It's pointless to try to engineer market outcomes to prevent poverty. The issue is just that roughly half of the population (kids, the elderly, the disabled, etc.--obviously not just talking about the unemployed) in a market economy will not have any income without transfers. A portion of those people will be fortunate enough to have someone in the other half that can take care of them, but another large portion will not. That's the case in all market-based economies, and all of them (with varying degrees of success) have figured out that the way to deal with it is transfer payments of some kind.

I wasn't a fan of separating families at the border, but I think something drastic has to be done to send a message that you can't just drive to the border, wave a crying baby at border patrol and expect to get in.

As for the illegals problem;

Illegals who cross over at non border crossing points are still entitled to their day in court to decide their migration status. But since the PM's anti Trump virtue signalling tweet. We've seen a very sharp incline of mass migration crossing at non border crossing points. These people get put up in temporary housing which is anything from homeless shelters to student dorms to hotels. While they enjoy their stay, they are allowed access to health care and other social services all at the expense of tax payers dollars.

Money that when struggling war vets asked. (people who have fought for this country) We were told we didn't have...So that's step one of this is bullshit. Our vets come before anyone outside of the country in my Canada. Period.

But beyond the money and free access to health care, now we've seen a large spike in shootings and gang activities happening in Toronto that just so happens to correspond with the large wave of "irregular" migrants. The media isn't drawing parallels because that would be bad PR for the PM...heck we are down to calling them "irregular migrants ffs..." It's not a stretch to connect the dots here that most of the migrants who come from Africa, would make for great gang recruits to allow them access to money under the table. Because it's not all "woman and children and good decent people just wanting a better life...". Canada by virtue of free health care is suddenly an attractive destination for anyone who needs it. This is not the same as someone looking at Canada and Canadian culture and deciding to want to live here and be a part of it.

We cannot sustain health care to the entire world. And until Troodoh changes policies the process to boot out those claimants who crossed over irregularly will only get further back uped. Right now it's currently backed up for a few years. It is perpetually getting worse.
