HEAVYWEIGHT COACH (why the average coach shouldn't be training heavy weights)

This might very well be the best thread I've ever read on this sub.

You keep using Kimbo Slice to make some ridiculous point. The man is dead show some respect.

Despite being limited in his skill set he still managed to accomplish more than you in his 42 years. No one knows you exist despite claiming to be "a founding father of mma".

No one is saying fight skills are not the most important factors in fight sports. But being an obese individual doing special ed version of bag work over which you got clowned on by accomplished members of the other forums doesn't speak highly for you.

Your problem is you make crazy blanket statements and you got exposed through your videos.

Buttsore Translation service:

"As a veteran trainer and athlete who founded one of the first mixed martial arts clubs in American history you schooled a bunch of guys who got mad and called you fat after you posted a video of yourself explaining the filthy tactics of boxing's latest heavyweight champion Tyson Fury"

Fair amount of experts said this was decent muay thai from a 45 yr old 289lb wrestling coach

Hey look at this other fat guy explaining striking skills...LOL

You meangirls gonna call him out for being fat and old as well???

LOL

I unfortunately have to refer to Kimbo as an example because he is a man who despite his outwardly perfect physical appearance was very unhealthy since you mean girls want to try to "call me out" for being terribly unhealthy due to my physical appearance despite my perfectly healthy report

# you've been schooled

I honestly think 130 lb TKD hobbyist @spacetime would KO you in a fight.

Good for you for finding a fun, physical hobby. Keep on hitting those bags on the weekend. But you have absolutely no business training anyone on anything related to boxing or muay thai.

This is legendary old school internet underground bat shit. Dudes used to do this more, totally document their slip into dementia on some underground message board. 10/10

Good for you for contributing your time to the early days of MMA. That doesn't mean your striking isn't garbage and you have no business teaching it. If you were training this long, one would think you'd pick up some proper fundamentals by now.

guess who trained this guy for MMA?

Ok, an athletic young kid knocked someone out. Do you think you were responsible for that? You can find countless examples of this over in the Street Coliseum. Why are all your examples from 20 years ago, before real trainers entered the sport? Hammer House were meatheads training each other without proper coaching and they managed to win world titles. Do you think this approach would find any success in today's landscape? Proper striking coaching is essential for an MMA fighter now, and you obviously should not be providing it at a professional level. I'd say you're good enough to teach a class at CKO Kickboxing at best.

that lazy block you always do waiting for the bag to return triggers the fuck outta me. It's an awful habit when you should be instilling proper defensive positioning instead.

And before you say fat guys can't train like that:

Notice how he's active while blocking?

And your muay thai knees were even worse. But your punches aren't terrible, your left hook has a nice pop to it.

you have an opinion on the thread ?

[besides entertainment value]

Having never competed at those levels, I don't have much of an opinion worth listening to. As a 260lb fighter though, my trainer has tailored my training for me differently than he would a middleweight. Again, I've only competed and won on a state/local level, so I'm not an expert. That said my trainer isn't a heavyweight, but you don't need to be one to understand the needs of a fighter.

Most coaches never competed at a high level in the sport they coach. Belichick has never played in the NFL and he's one of the greatest coaches of all time. MMA is no different in that regard.

I didn't realize Larry is the only authority on coaching.

Again that's like you saying belichick can't coach NFL games because he's never played NFL football. It's nonsense.

The fuck does this thread have to do with S&C again?

its supposed to be about training heavyweight athletes differently because they are so different hence the title:
