Heat diner scene. Which two actors today could come closest to achieving the hype of De Niro/Pacino

There is nobody.

Pacino and DeNiro had this weird thing going where they were both considered the best actors. They were both the same age roughly, and they both were known for playing tough guys and/or gangsters.

Today, you have guys like Leo and Mcconaughey, who shared that great scene in wolf of wall street, but they were not viewed as badass dudes, even though they are talented actors.

Plus that scene doesn't feature them as equals, since Leo is the young buck learning from the master.

Speaking of these two. Has anyone seen that crappy movie righteous kill?

It's on Netflix now and I played it because it had Pacino and DeNiro in it, but holy crap is it a terrible movie.

It really shows that good acting cannot make a movie good. It can only compliment a movie that already had a good script and direction.

Bad acting can ruin a good movie, but good acting can't save a bad movie.

and Deniro and Pacino both had decades of accolades and box office success before the pairing. There has never been buildup like this in cinema, and I doubt there ever will be. They even shared a movie years before in Godfather 2, but never interacted so it was a great tease to what was to come. True equals.

We just don't have legendary celebrities anymore in the social media age. They are all too accessible to maintain the mythical status of previous Hollywood stars.

i'd like to see a Chris Waltz and Jason Isaacs 'who can you despise more' faceoff scene

Holes was a great movie and he was great in Transformers.

I don't get the hate for Shia.

I liked him in Fury (Even though I didn't like the film overall). Don't think I've seen him in anything else but he seems like a decent enough actor

Haven't seen that one yet.

Arnie and Sly were mediocre actors though. Vin and Rock are master thespians.

Many have claimed that there are clear references to Harold Pinter in the scene were there rolling on the ground punching each other.

Waltz and Spacey but who knows if we'll get that.

Pitt and Cruise was a similar duo ..and it didn't disappoint.

Funny about that Heat scene, you never see BOTH of them on screen. It's a face shot while the back of the head of the other is shot. Perhaps they never did have a scene together. Even thinking of the ending...

Sam Jackson and Morgan Freeman
Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio
Daniel Day-Lewis and Lewis Day-Daniel

Righteous Kill is a fucking travesty. I have no idea why Pacino and DeNiro decided to reunite all those years after Heat to do a Jon Avnet movie. Hopefully The Irishman will cleanse the palate.

A big issue I would say is that theres generally been a decline in the quality of gangster/crime cinema. both Pacino and De Niro had many of their best roles in the genre building up both credibility and personas to match.

Maybe the closest we could have had in recent years might have been Sam Jackson and Denzel in the 00's? wouldn't have had quite the same credibility but they had the same mix of acting chops and hardass personas.

Looking further abroad perhaps Beat Takashi and Choi Min-sik around the same time, maybe a bit latter.

Well neither Pachino or De Niro are dead so... Them?

Thats a dumb fuckin scene anyway.. Why in the fuck are these two casually having dinner when De Niro is already tied to robberies killing multiple cops

The assumption is surely that theirs a lack of evidence against him at that point.
