Have Izzy’s reflexes diminished?

I'm still surprised he couldnt get 1 good counter on Dricus lounges...
If you look at his prior career though his counters have tended to come in situations were an opponent really goes after him, is leaning forward chasing throwing a lot of punches allowing him to sneak in a counter from the side when their off balance.

DDP was still fairly wild but he tended to limit himself to 1-2 punchs and didnt really chase Izzy until he has him badly hurt.

Izzy landed plenty of shots on him but didn't have enough on them to finish.

Over a hundred fights, put on noticeable muscle mass, and getting older. Odds are he's slowing down.

You hardly get your reflexes sharpen by 35.

Just in general reflexes start to diminish late 20's early 30's. Izzy is 35.
In general, sure, but I really have to wonder about the actual degree of decline and how meaningful it is.

This is obviously completely anecdotal and proves nothing, but I've been into competitive gaming ever since I was a kid and have measured my reaction speed many times over the years. Curiously enough, there has been no decline in my scores as I've gotten older, and I even achieved a new high score (141ms) at 32.

Maybe a smidge but it's also easy to say this with him losing a couple of fights and getting older. But the shots he is getting hit with are exploiting a habit he's had from the start - sort of leaning away from shots against the fence instead of moving his feet away.

He still slips the first and second shots just fine, but guys who have studied the tape know to keep going and they'll hit him when his feet are stationary and he's just leaning away.

So it might not be the reflexes primarily - it might be the case of opponents having footage of a weakness they can exploit (and which Izzy may be able to correct -dude is still hugely talented). Also, note that Dricus couldn't really do this to him during the early rounds - you have to kick his legs and make him tired before you can really get to him.

I can tell when someone has been injesting alot of mind altering substances . Israel falls into that

I am looking forward to a reborn (re-newed), clean Adis'anya next year

I feel across much of his run at the top of the UFC his tactics were often to try and bait people by, take punches by rolling with them getting the opponent to commit to leaning forward throwing a combo when Izzy would then counter.

It possible, but I also think DDP is better, tougher, and more unpredictable than alot of people giving him credit for. On paper this was maybe his worst matchup and he emphatically finished Izzy. Izzy literally motioned for him to bring it, and got run the fuck over.

Relied on reflexes & athleticism his entire combat career, now with those diminished his flaws are starting to show

these champs start to believe in dana's hype. Kamaru, izzy, and the list continues. Once they realize they are not invincible, it's over. Izzy was lucky to get the rematch from alex. he's done now. the best with even lines on Saturday was a gift from Vegas.

I think old man time comes for those in MMA that rely on quickness a little earlier than others.

He is 35, in most sports 35 is getting long in the tooth. If he was more of a grappler it would be less of an issue.

For Anderson Silva it cam around 36-37. For Liddell that was 36.

Now Pereira is 37 and looking prime still but he moved up in weight where is quickness is still good compared to who he's fighting. Most of these guys are 6'4 and can move up weights as they ag as easily. Izzy is tall enough to go up to LHW, he might want to consider that.

That combo ddp landed on him that hurt him and then the submission did it before that it looked like ddp was in trouble

No, his choices for approaching fights has.

The Man's 35.

If you have to ask, you got to wait till you turn 35 to understand.

I'm 36, you definitely don't feel as energetic and agile as what you did at 30 or lower...
add to that, the injuries start to become more common.

He's definitely lost a step. Strickland is a weird matchup but he shouldn't have gotten dominated like that.
