Has Jon Jones grown on you?

Jones being a winner is all the ammunition he needs to annoy people who carry this cauldron of dislike for him, even though they know him not.

He's grown on me in the sense that I like to see him fight and I've accepted he isn't going to lose anytime soon.

I have a hard time liking Jon, but he's really not that terrible of a guy. I love his fights though and I don't really care how he is outside of the cage. He puts on exciting fights and that's enough for me.

Are his fights really that exciting though?

His fights with Rampage, Rashad, and Vitor were pretty dull IMO, they weren't entertaining to me.

Nope, i liked him after the Bonnar fight, and have progressively disliked him more every time i see/hear him.

I can't stand him.

I have grown to respect what he does in the cage, and as mainstream (ESPN) ambassador of our sport, I will support him.

However, I still don't like snitches and fake people.

I'd really like to see him mix it up at heavyweight.

same, same for me.

he is a guy who I have tended to cheer against but it is not like I actively dislike him. Some people seem to get worked up about his personality. maybe I don't follow MMA closely enough but I have never really figured out what is supposed to be so bad about him

I certainly respect him. I guess I will usually cheer for his opponent because I like the underdogs more when I don't have strong feelings about the champ.

I will be cheering for him v. Sonnen because I don't like the whole WWE smack talk thing.

I also felt sympathetic for Jones when the UFC fucked up an event and tried to blame him for it. Fight the power and all that stuff

yea pretty fucked up the way dana tried to blame jones for an event being cancelled. in general there's got to be a reward for guys taking short notice fights, considering the fact that they get the ax if they lose a certain amount of fights. to solve this, maybe an added fight to the fighter's contract for steppin up might make more fighters willing to tough it out and fight outside their normal schedule.

Anderson showboats and mocks his opponents all of the time. Faber is a litter cocky douche and acts like he deserves title shots all of the time. Benson used to be cool but he is getting cocky too.

Jones is more down to earth than any of these guys. Yet they all have fans.

I think the reason why people give the Diaz Brothers, Rampage, Chael, and the countless other arrogant/disrespectful fighters a pass for their behavior is because they know they are flawed fighters who will be grounded in due time. Jones has no flaws. There is nothing worse to losers than a confident guy whose confidence is warranted. People hate to see superior people acknowledge their own superiority. It stokes feelings of inferiority in everyone.

Think about it, who will piss you off more:

1) Some homeless guy going around gloating how he is smarter, richer, more successful, and overall better than you.

or

2) Bill Gates going around gloating about how he is smarter, richer, more successful, and overall better than you.

The latter case would probably be true, and thus, it would hit closer to home. You would just shrug off the homeless guy. But when Bill Gates says it you will take notice and get resentful.

Silva showboats in the ring, that's a different issue. Before/after the fights, unless their name is Chael Sonnen, you very rarely see him disrespecting his opponents. Furthermore he stepped up on short notice to save an event against a guy he'd clearly beat, Jones didn't. If nothing else (and I'd argue there's quite a lot of difference), that clearly separates them in the eyes of the fans. If you notice again here though, Silva's showboating sells fights. On the other hand, I don't really see any evidence that Bendo is getting cocky. Even after the second Edgar fight he was honestly examining his own weaknesses. Perhaps you're right about Faber but I haven't seen much, at least no major incidents of being disrespectful.

I don't agree with your analogy because, frankly, all the fighters we've listed are better fighters than all their fans/detractors. Jones might be a little more irritating because he's more successful, but he seems far more hated than Silva who also seems invincible in the UFC, so I'm not sure it's true. I think it's more due to Jones' disrespectful acts being detrimental to fans (belt signing, UFC 151), dangerous (DUI incident, more debatably 12-6 elbows) and possibly the feeling that he hasn't earned the status that some have given him, beating mostly worn-out greats and having not been in the UFC for too long. Some of that is fair, some of it isn't, but it all adds up.

Most of you hate Jones are feminine... "he's c0cky so c0cky". not anymore cocky than JDS or any other 23 year old world champion..

Yeah, people I dont hear about for a while usually dont annoy me. Him sitting on the sidelines to take a gimme fight is just fine with me.. as long as it wastes most the year.
