Has age changed you? ?

I’ve mellowed out a lot. I’m quite a bit calmer. I have no interest in bar or club scenes anymore, and sadly I rarely go to concerts even, as I’m getting old and stuck in my ways. There’s not as much new music that interests me as there used to be. But overall I’m a better person now than I was in my younger years. I’m more patient, more mellow, a lot less angry and pessimistic. Still very passionate about the same art, music, and sociopolitical issues that I always was.

Much more cynical and have less patience for idiots.

I can still ski and swim very well.

I worry less about my professional life. At this point, it's probably not going to get much better, and I'm pretty much just happy to be employed. I appreciate that I have a good personal life and try to make sure it stays good.

I feel that way.

For myself, getting older has come with a process of checking things off the "give a shit" list.

I'm so much less invested in my own opinions and those of others. I just let personal rudeness towards me slide. I don't engage with shit people doing lousy things.

I try to be sickeningly positive in the hope that I manage to come off as mildly positive.

I've never been one to care much about others opinions of me. I was optimistic as a child but I got that out of my system by the age of thirty. Hope for the best but expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed. I started to really look at those I considered friends. I saw how they reacted to other people when they were present only to start talking shit about them as soon as they left. They acted friendly as long as there was something in it for them. It made me wonder what they said about me when I wasn't there. I came to the conclusion that I was just being used like they used others. I have family members that I seldom hear from who will call out of the blue just to talk then call again a couple of days later asking to borrow money.

Are there things that you use to do when you were younger but do not do or want to do anymore?

I had a birthday recently and realized there are things I use to do but I no longer do anymore at my age .

For example when I was younger I use to go out with my friends on my days off to bars but now we just use zoom or house party to drink and talk.
I use to go to price chopper and talk with people but as I got older I now stay six feet away from people . My fashion has changed a bit also as I now wear gloves and a bandanna over my face when I am out . I don’t even go into restaurants anymore I call ahead and they bring the stuff outside to my car for me. I have even started video conferencing into work meetings.

It makes me feel good that at my age I am able to keep up with technology and styles but I do miss some stuff I did when I was younger . Have also found myself drinking more and playing more video games . .. which I didn’t do as much when I was younger.

How about you? Is there anything you use to do when younger that you don’t anymore but maybe wish you still did? Or do you have anything you are glad you don’t do anymore ?
would much rather have stayed young and ignorant and accept everything as is and at face value. The older I get, the less I know and the more questions I have. Wish more than anything I still had that Western Pa, typical yinnzer, parochial viewpoint

Of course. All my habits now are more health wise oriented. I stopped drinking alcohol, eating junk, etc.

In my early 20s my interests were partying, getting laid and look cool.
In my 30s I'm into a lot of other stuff (sports, music, reading, languages) which actually make me cooler than before and I get laid way more.

I've found a new appreciation for my family and close relationships too.

I ache more after doing yard work and I look forward to catching up on my shows. I used to never watch TV and was also built for marathons. I was sore for three days after clearing brush last weekend.
Are you still Beardless? Maybe your strength came from your beard you know...

Also doing yard work is one of the most exciting things there is out there. IDGAF about what anyone says.. I love planting stuff and watching them grow.

Oh, I didn't mean other people's opinions of me specifically, I meant opinions in general. I filter by subject and whether I think they know the subject.
It's not that I simply dismiss opinions, I just accept them and reply "Okay." Non-committal.

I felt less sore with my beard. While getting screened to enter the prison today one of the nurses said, "Awwww you look so young and cute!" I almost filled that entire lobby with uppercuts. I'm a man dammit!
That just so happens to look 15 without a beard...

It sounds like in most of what your saying is not that age changed you, but the pandemic changed your behavior.

Would you be doing those changes if the pandemic wasn't there?

At least you have the option bro. My beard kind of sucks (grows weird) and I'm kind of forced to shave. I still look in my mid 20s at 32 tho (being skinny helps too).

I think a good point is when you realize that some things that would have been the end of the world for you when you were younger don't matter at all in the big picture.
I know people around me that freak out about things that are not a big deal... and I used t o do the same.

Yeah im nowhere near as selfish with money . i used to get money when i was younger and buy myself stuff . since having a kid and taking care of my parents i give all my money away. I just bought a new phone and feel awful about spending the money on myself.

Hmm interesting .

age hasn't changed me, but I change it by living.
