Social Happy Dr. MLK Jr. Day

The repackaging of MLK as some vanilla pacifist who went around gibbering about being "color-blind" would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

Dude was a race-conscious socialist who was one of the most hated people in the US at the time of his death for saying shit like this:

Also, there was no gap in perception between King and more radical elements of the Civil Rights Movement at the time.

I'd imagine 90% of people haven't heard any quotes of his aside from "I have a dream" and "context of character" "little black boys...little white girls..." etc.

Otherwise he wouldn't be as platable or marketable.

This is fucking hilarious response to that post.
are you referring to BLM "peaceful protests"? I was comparing that to your second pic in your post.

So the solution is to judge everyone by their skin tone forever? We should never, ever get passed it? Not even 200 years from now?

I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective – the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed matter: the guaranteed income… The curse of poverty has no justification in our age. It is socially as cruel and blind as the practice of cannibalism at the dawn of civilization, when men ate each other because they had not yet learned to take food from the soil or to consume the abundant animal life around them. The time has come for us to civilize ourselves by the total, direct and immediate abolition of poverty.”
Where do We Go from Here?, 1967.
The man was an incredible speaker and dude was on that UBI idea.

Cool little clip.

I once went off on a coworker. Management was real Patty-Cake with his ass, and I got tired of having to pickup his slack. He got banker's hours, but still managed to smell like booze every other day. I told him everything he needed to hear.

The next day, management called me into their office to discuss what had happened. I gave them my side of the story. Then, I was handed a an essay titled "Martin Luther King Day", by the coworker. If I were a betting man, I'd say the opening with the bio and historical shit was plagiarized. The misspellings had to be a personal touch. Then, it went into how I destroyed a day that was sacred to him (the incident occurred on MLK Day). When it got to this point, that's where the content really changed. Incomplete sentences, run on sentences, higher frequency of misspellings... This supports my claim of plagiarism. I know, my work ain't the best, but his was crazy. Anyhow, it went into how I confronted him on that day, because it was racially motivated. The things I called him out on were perceived as my stereotypes of black people. He brought up how I had no business bringing up his drinking. He went into how he drank to cope with all the racism in his life. I, of course, was making it worse.

It was so outrageous. It had qualities that made it a masterpiece, in it's own right. I asked for a copy of it, but that wasn't happening. I hope the original is preserved. In the least, a copy. The world deserves it.

"Identity" is everything now. It doesn't matter what you do or who you are. You are simply your identity and you are ranked as such.

It is so sad.

Very true. So much for unity. And sanity.

that is a pretty crazy parallel with what the BLM movement is doing now setting buildings and cars on fire and then saying they are non violent. also commiting battery on people.

While being cheered on as "peaceful".

BLM is really just the black version of the KKK. Sad that they are so far from what MLK supposedly stood for.

I love his dream speech because it triggers modern day racists.

one of my favorite consoles ahead of its time.

ehhhhh he was a socialist plant that was also a horn dog and loved white women (among other sexual acts that the fbi labeled abnormal) but I more like what he was saying towards the end of his life.

"the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself in exile IN HIS OWN LAND."

"I fear I may have integrated my people into a burning house."

you people sure never quote this one

The "Letter From Birmingham Prison" was always a must read every Black History Month when I was in school

MLK had his flaws but he was a leader in every sense of the word

RIP King

I literally haven’t seen a black person since August or so. There’s a black girl here that takes a summer job in town and when she leaves our black population drops by 50%. I saw the other black person in town once and had to suppress the urge to physically point him out to everyone. So rare!
