Social Greta Thunberg Megathread

No one's "defending" China; it's just more prudent to deal with our own failings before placing our emphasis on powers outside our sphere of influence. The reason why "climatistas" get so annoyed by the "but China....!" retort is that it's a weak attempt to deflect our own considerable contributions to global pollution.

If you believe, as Greta Thunberg does, that carbon dioxide emissions are a literal extinction level crisis, then prudence would dictate maximum possible pressure on China, which emits more Co2 than the US and the EU combined.

But China is not a weak retort in any sense when it comes to environmental problems. They are far and away the worst offender globally. You've got it backward, it is the lack of pressure on China that gives away the game: these people aren't seriously worried. They just want us to be worried.

People with autism or Aspergers are not retarded? Because I would have thought having a developmental disorder would mean you are qualify as someone who has delayed or impeded developmental progress, ie retarded.
Some on the spectrum are mentally retarded. You're ignorant in saying that all of those on the spectrum are retarded. Would you say that every dyslexic individual is retarded?

Their emissions are so high because of our own demand for products manufactured there. Kill the demand and the output collapses. This is why it's more important to go after the consumption rather than manufacture.

A learning disorder is not the same thing as a serious mental/emotional/social disorder. It's just deflecting the issue.

She says she has Aspergers, that means she's retarded by definition, both in dictionaries and my own. But no one wants to call her a retard and yet believe criticism of her is despicable because she's a retard.

You say no one is defending China, but you assiduously avoid condemning the worst polluter by far by any metric on the planet today. Lol.

You're smarter than that Inga. You completely ignored the point of his post. We're talking about cleaning up our own mess before we can push that action on to others. She has a platform here because many agree with her. China is not exactly a place for discourse, let alone from outsiders. So the direct change she can influence at the moment is here in the West. It's an entirely different can of worms to figure out how to get China to comply, it is a bridge that will needed to be crossed at some point.

So the West should implement extremist and unrealistic climate change policies that put itself at a huge economic, industrial, military and technological disadvantage because the biggest manufacturer and polluter won't listen to virtue signalers and the climate science racketeers? Makes sense.

Makes as much sense as one society deciding to become pacifists while their neighbors become more aggressive and imperialistic. That's not going to work out well in the long-run.

China not far and away the worst offender yes they have huge problems but are paying for it with epic level of pollution in the major cities but they are not sitting and doing nothing about it. Oh and two wrongs don't make a right "Oh but they are worst then me" It sounds like a 5 year old pointing to their 3 year old sister and blaming her.

Also China has become the world leader in electric cars where Tesla, Audi and now this weekend Porsche will be building their cars tax free and completely owned by the Company to address the growing need to reduce pollution in their cities and has started to take effect. Even as car sales have slowed electric car sales continue to sell strong even in China.

Bullshit. Thunberg is not talking about cleaning up her own mess. This week she traveled across the ocean to lecture a nation who are not her own people and today addressed the United Nations, which purports to represent the entire world.

But yes, the extreme insistence on keeping the world's second largest economy out of the conversation proves that my original quip was well aimed.

The climate hysteria isn't aimed at controlling carbon emissions. It's about controlling western democracies.

Never said two wrongs make a right. Just pointing out a very strange contradiction between the nastiness of Thunberg's rhetoric aimed at western nations compared to the litany of excuses made for Asian countries.

That's misleading. China is the largest CO2 producer, but the US is higher per capita contributions.
But it's besides the point. One country shouldn't say that they have no obligations because other countries are worse. We live on the same planet and everyone needs to do their part (and some need to do more than others).

It's simple.

China and India don't give a shit about virtue signaling and celebrities lecturing them. They aren't going to change. So it's up to everyone else to drastically change their own countries while those ignoring such policies grow stronger. Climate change is a fact. The significance of human impact is the issue. And it's hard to believe that banning SUVs is going to change anything.

Part of me wants to applaud these children for being so involved in their future, and politics in general.

then another part of me gets annoyed...for example, what are their credentials? why are they an authority on this matter? (having heard Greta, she definietely knows a lot about the subject).

but a lot of these children are being used. and it's an unfair practice really. If someone is going to disagree with these children, how are they going to look? like ogres

Mental disorder? So someone bipolar is retarded? Emotional disorder? So a soldier with PTSD is retarded? Social anxiety disorder is now retardation?

Mental retardation is defined in dictionaries as someone of significantly below average intelligence, that does not even remotely define everyone with autism. Dan Akroyd and Dan Harmon are both retarded by your definition.

Then the per capita argument.

You should maybe go lecture all the woke green celebrities who own yachts and Gulfstreams and regularly make movies that use up more resources than a large town and generate even more by people going to see it rather than people on Sherdog.

Take up your issues with Webster's.

Yeah I didn't realize she was as old as she was when I first posted about her in here. She's not exactly a child and I'm sure she has more of an argument than what's been represented in the thread.
