Social Greta Thunberg Megathread

No doubt. When I dog on autism I'm just being self deprecating. It really is a hindrance for people far more than it is a benefit, not remotely close to being a super power. A lot of people on the spectrum have a hard time just holding a job.
Yeah, Rain Man really ruined it for normal aspies.

Getting tired of people throwing toothpicks at me and asking how many there were.

Ya, fighting for the environment is noble and all but what is she doing for minorities and trannies? White girl needs to check her privilege.

You know when someone starts a conversation this way they already know people already view them as a climate change denier. Being impartial is hardly their calling in life.
I'm not! The thread was about child activists. I 100% believe the climate is changing due to man and we should prioritize cleaning things up. I grew up in a town that revolved around an oil refinery. I refused to seek an easy high paying job there because I didn't believe in supporting it, I worked hard to move from that town so I could find employment I was proud to do that wouldn't damage the environment.

That, or he acknowledges that most people are generalizing shits who only view the world in black and white, thus he has to preempt his opinion with a statement in order to get it out of the way first.

Excuse my ignorance. I can't imagine what it must be like for people who have it. I guess I can't help but want to supprt someone like Greta who has her heart in the right place for a good cause. I hope she's doing ok away from the cameras.

I'm going to look into aspergers a bit more. I do know a bit about autism and I know how hard that can be. A close friend of mine has a son with it and he needs a lot of care and struggles to do basic things like go shopping. Breaks my heart how hard it is on him. I hope he gets better as he grows older, poor lad.

I feel you brother. I think my favorite film on Aspergers or high functioning autism is the documentary Coneheads.

Those fake tears were awful and cringeworthy, good on her carrying on the con for so long she will be set for life after this.

Beldar is the hero none of us expected, but were obsessed with for a minute or two.

I read a poll that the only group that does not care about climate change is old conservatives. Most old Conservatives are too busy trying to blow dudes in airport bathrooms, to be concerned with climate change.
Sad watching, people attack her. Attack her ideas but the right no longer does that. They attack the messenger because nobody is buying their ideas anymore.
They used to be about family values and balanced budgets. Now they fight to defend a serial adulterer who runs trillion dollar deficits.
There was a time seems like decades ago where conservatives ran the sierra club an wanted to protect areas for fishing and controlled hunting. Loved camping an hunting deer while insuring that the population of deer had a place to call home and never where hunted to extinction. They wanted to protect the wetlands an the shoreline. Now it's all about industry an and tearing up environmental for corporations.

Jesus fucking Christ dude. This thread is about Greta and you found a way to bring up the right....again. You need help, man.
This is a thread about child activists. Plural.
You are a terrible reader and should be embarrassed to be posting this idiocy.

On one hand, using children to protest something is often seen as a cynical appeal to emotion. I've seen churches that bus kids to protest abortion clinics on their spring breaks, for instance.
On the other hand, children are going to be disproportionately affected by climate issues, and it makes perfect sense for someone her age to be an activist on behalf of it.
16 y/o activists are nothing new, the only thing that makes her stand out is the amount of coverage she is getting compared to other kids her age.

All in all, I think she's got an important message, she walks the walk, and she's making the right enemies. The world need more people who give a shit about things, not people that tear them down because they want to ignore the problem.

You're not coming across ignorant at all. I just wanted to touch on it since it's a personal issue that isn't spoken about honestly very often. There's this weird thing with people on the autistic spectrum, they're handled with protective gloves like little puppies or treated like superhuman cyborgs, no inbetween.

It's not often they have just one obsession for life, but they are obsessive people and those obsessions are often a huge hindrance to living productive lives. Sometimes those obsessions do lead to great things though.

I am 100% behind her going out and fighting for a cause, making an effort to make a difference. I think that is awesome. I don't know what her arguments are so I may be very ignorant here seeing cherry picked bits to smear her. I just don't like the argument of "I'm young, you're stealing my dreams for greed". That just causes more resentment and tension on both sides and doesn't address the changes we can make. If she cares so much, she will commit to her education and work for practical solutions to clean up the environment and attain clean energy.

Didn't she say that she should be in school instead of speaking about this stuff?

Maybe she should be allowed to work through her teenage angst normally, just like, you know, all the rest of the teenagers. Once they grow up a little bit, they tend to realize that the sky isn't falling and that the world doesn't revolve around their bullshit.

There are even Trump supporters here who claim to be environmentalists.

Except the whole part where her campaign is about the sky falling apart due to methane gas being literally produced by cowshit.
Amazing choice of words for being so unintentionally wrong.

The sky isn't going to fall apart because of cowshit. Just chill out.

In 20 years you'll know just how insane you sounded on this day.

Welp there you have it fellas, the troop has clocked in and justifying this as predicted. I’m not surprised are you?

Not surprised in the least.

Seems like they forgot the experience MAGA Hat Boy received, only MAGA Hat Boy didn't put himself out there, like Greta is.

MAGA Hat Boy's only crime was smiling, while white, and wearing a red hat with Donald Trump's Make America Great Again slogan embroidered on the front.

If their arguments had any validity, Twitter wouldn't need to shadow ban their critics.

Parents doing a great job scripting her.

2 thumbs up for the $$$.
Her parents were not environmentalists, and were initially concerned she was protesting by not attending school. They later joined her in solidarity and became vegan too.

Initially, she protested alone outside the Swedish parliament. The next day, several other students joined her. The day after, there were more- and then the journalists and media followed. This is how it snowballed. Not by some dastardly plan of adults trying to exploit a child, but by her own initiative and civil disobedience.

Through social media, word got around everywhere until it culminated in the global school strike- with 1.6 million students participating on March 15.

and it all started with this.

You just witnessed a young girl who you dismiss as an unwitting pawn just spearhead a global movement of youth activists. If you had a conscience at all, this is where you would feel a tinge of shame and make a silent promise to yourself to be just a tiny bit less of an asshole. If you had a conscience that is.
