Going out when you don't smoke

Well I work in the restaurant industry, and was part of a petition to keep smoking areas within business, and I dealt with a few lobbyists against who I've been in touch with about other stuff since, and they revel in their victory but don't give a shit either way really because they're not party people.

Night clubs smell of sweat and farts now.

There's a pub in Dublin that has abandoned use of it's basement because without cigarette smoke to mask it, Guiness farts are lethal.

There's another one in Ireland that allows people to smoke if they put money in a put son that when they get fined the kitty is there and doesn't cost the house... Gotta love Irish logic.

Move to Seattle. Homos get mad at your for lighting up on the sidewalk around here.

It's not like any more people started going to pubs... Way less, and without the pubs communities lost their focal points... It was an absolute disaster for a lit more people than it benefited. The people that were against it were just on a crusade and didn't even drink out.

I know at my local bar business dropped off by about 35% when they enacted the no smoking ban in bars. The people that were campaigning to get it banned don't even go to the bar.
If a business wants to allow smoking, it should be up to the business. If a customer doesn't want to go into a place that allows smoking, don't go.
This is coming from a non smoker.

I smoke socially, (and often anti socially,) so I can't relate.

But to answer your question, I say either take up smoking, or wear one of those gauze face masks when you go out.

In fact, aren't those really popular over there anyway?

Smoking sucks overall, but drinking and smoking go hand in hand.

That's what you get for living in japan. Hope trying to chase Asian skirt worth lung cancer webo.

You know what I find funny?
Cigarette smokers can't stand the smell of cigars.

I like to be social, but I live in Japan and smoking is legal in public places, bars, clubs, restaurants etc.

I can't stand people smoking around me, especially when there is a small room of chain-smoking salarymen, it just becomes cloudy with smoke, it's disgusting ... It gets in my hair, my skin, clothes and if I'm wearing wool, it means I have to go and get my shit dry-cleaned!! So, I avoid going out sometimes because of that.

But, then I don't have a social life and don't get to socialise with friends etc.

Like, people lighting up near me, just puts me in a bad mood and I feel like I can't breathe properly ... How should I keep a healthy social and deal with this barrier?

Can't relate. It's illegal to smoke in public indoor places on CA. That must suck though. There must be others that hate it too. Is there like a Japanese version of Meetup.com where you can meet and socialize with like minded people?

If the fact that you are not allowed to smoke in a place is the difference between wanting to go out and socialise or not, then what does that say about the people who are smoking? Their whole social circle and fabric of society hinges on the ability to be able to smoke and pollute the air in an enclosed area ... real mature ...

How do you know that for sure? I'm sure there were many people that attended bars and pubs that didn't like smoking and having their air polluted, but didn't want to speak up for fear of offending overly-sensitive smokers ... Me, being one of many.
