That was poor wording on my end, but in essence, what I'm saying is that different cultures breed different mindsets, and that holds for generations. You may have lost Spanish language ability, but your habits and values are largely from your parents and how they raised, and that's why a group like the Jews for example start off in horrible urban poverty and are wealthy in a generation, and yet a 3rd generation Chicano grows up on welfare and joins a gang. Puerto Rican's will have American citizenship and lived in America for 4 or 5 generations, speak no Spanish, and will be on section 8.
People let in a bunch of dumb motherfuckers into their country, and are surprised when their descendants are dumb motherfuckers, and I say that as my mother has a 3rd grade education from a 3rd world country, and look at how conservative (stupid, according to people who don't agree with me) I am. The poorly educated love Trump.
Been watching too many movies, friend-o.
Here again, the research shows otherwise. By some measures, Latinos are actually more upwardly mobile than model minority Asians, even though their educational attainments are obviously much lower.
Second-generation Latinos almost double their parents' college completion rates, while Asians only improve by about 10%
Similar story with earnings:
How upwardly mobile are Hispanic children? Depends how you look at it.
Richard Reeves and Nathan Joo examine how children of Hispanic immigrants fare in the United States in terms of earnings and education compared to their parents and to other immigrant groups.

Of course the reason for this is that Latino immigrants have a much, much lower starting point than Asian or black immigrants, so there's more room to improve. But this very low starting point also explains why there are some 3rd generation Latinos still struggling. When you start off that low, it takes longer to climb out.
Politically, it's kind of a mixed bag. Yeah, as a whole, low-education, naturalized Latino immigrants vote more Democratic than better educated, 2nd generation + Latinos. But if you break it down by education, the gains that Trump has made with both Hispanics and blacks have been mostly with the no college crowd. There's talk of the Trump base changing from very white no college, to mostly white, more multicultural... but still no college.
