Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

Anyone have good suggestions for a high quality PC gaming controller? I've wanted to pull the trigger on the elite or elite 2 xbox controller for a long time now, but they seem to have quality/longevity issues.
Just get an X-box or PS4 controller. Whichever you prefer. I use my PS4 controller and it works great.

I've been using the same two wired Xbox 360 controllers made by rock candy for over 6 years. I've had no issues with them at all.

Admittedly, I only use a controller for gaming about 1/3 of the time so I guess you could say that the one I use has about 2 years worth of moderate to heavy use.

xbox controller works great, used it for emulator gaming for years. They’ll be on sale as usual for Boxing Day so perfect timing.

I've already used regular controllers. I was mostly curious if anyone has made the jump to more premium controllers and if they would recommend them at all.

Doesn't seem like anyone ever recommends them. If you're made of gold the Xbox Elite 2 seems to be the Rolls Royce. If your PC is bluetooth-capable and on WIndows 10 that's all you need. If not, you can purchase a bluetooth adapter, but it makes more sense to just snag the Xbox Wireless Adapter.

Just got around to this new LTT video. This prototype looks like it could be the future of CPU cooling:

I didn't suggest this used build had the same value as new hardware with similar gaming power. I provided that as a reference in order that he might consider what percentage off he deems reasonable. You seem to think ~64% or 2/3rd off the price of new hardware with identical power is reasonable. I think that's steep.

So I asked you to provide an example of a used build on the market in the budget range you offered, and I certainly don't care (nor do I suspect he minds) if the guts are 4+ years old. If that is your appraisal then certainly you can produce similar builds on the market going in that price range to substantiate the value as a used unit.

Stop dodging this. Just show me the way.

That's a lot of weight to be hanging off your mobo.

Linus mentions in his review the company's goal is to shrink the cooler's width from 103mm to 30mm for production.

Ryzen 2700x is still on sale on Amazon for $160.
Asrock B450M mobo for $50AR on Newegg.
Team Group 2x8gb DDR3000 for $50 on Newegg.

That's an 8 core setup for $260! Three years ago before Ryzen launched and you were looking for an 8 core cpu, you were looking at something like an E5-1660 v4 that was over $1000.

Ryzen 5 2600's are on ebay for $115

I do like the orientation of the cooler.
I'm curious how it would perform in an updraft case, like the pc011 Dynamic or the Cooler Master SL600M, with a vertical mount cpu.

Xbox One X NBA 2K19 Bundle is on sale via Gamespot for $250 today-- the price of a normal Xbox One unit. To make it even sweeter you get an additional free Xbox One wireless controller with the purchase. This isn't available online, so your only hope is if a local Gamestop has it stocked. Mine has it in stock:
  • Xbox One X 1TB
  • 2x Xbox One wireless controllers
  • NBA 2K19

The Xbox One X is still going for $350 at Best Buy (in game bundles: Star Wars: Fallen Order; NBA 2K20; Gears of War 5), and $340 (no bundle) at Amazon. This is last year's NBA 2K, but considering the extra controller, and the fact a game you can sell is better than none at all, this is a very attractive deal.

AMD Zen 3 CPUs Allegedly Features 17% IPC Gain Over Zen 2 Architecture, Ryzen 4000 ‘Vermeer’ CPUs to Feature Huge Performance Upgrade Over Ryzen 3000
I can't fathom how even an outlet as incredible with leaks as WCCFTech has been the past few years could offer a figure as specific as this, but it must be internal. That doesn't mean it's reliable, or will prove true, but the same leaks proved very close to true for Zen 2 over Zen/Zen+, and that alone was enough for a coup. This would be an even bigger jump in terms of per-core performance than Zen 2 brought over Zen+.

This would put them miles ahead of Intel.

Another great video from TechDeals with 11 games comparing 4 vs 6 cores

CES starts in a couple days and stuff is starting to trickle out

Finally broke down and ordered up components for my new desktop.
After 8, yes 8, years, i will be retiring my AMD Phenom II X4. This Win7 build has been rock solid for me, never rebuilt. Only 2 dead items in the computer after all those years, one of my intake fans died around a year ago and the CMOS battery finally died about 2 months ago. Ran a 3D Mark on the computer yesterday to compare to how it scored when i first built it, and performance was only slightly lower.

Here's the components for my next build:

MSI X570-A PRO Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Microsoft OEM Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit
RAIDMAX Scorpio series RX-735AP-S 735W
Corsair Force MP600 M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express Gen 4.0
Cooler Master MasterBox MB600L ATX Mid-Tower
MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
Ballistix Sport LT 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
Noctua NF-F12 PWM, Premium Quiet Fan, 4-Pin (120mm, Brown) - x3

I'll probably pickup a new monitor in a few months to replace one of my older 24" 1080p monitors (I run a dual 24" monitor setup). Will carry over my DVD player and both of my mechanical hard drives from my current rig to my new one. May replace the Wraith cooler that comes with the Ryzen 7, will see how temps are after everything is setup before i make that determination.

I don't know if it matters to you or not, but Noctua makes those fans in black for only $3 more

Yeah, i wasn't really digging the brown color, but figured it didn't matter due to where i typically keep my computer case.
Good to know, didn't see the black ones (though admittedly didn't go out looking for specific colors).
