Tech Gaming Hardware discussion (& Hardware Sales) thread

ryzen 7 2700 or ryzen 5 3600? wich is better? sorry am a noobie hehe
The Ryzen 7 3600 is going to perform better in most games. The Ryzen 5 2700 wins out on performance per dollar, it's $140 on ebay atm.
Here's an article with benchmarks to show the difference, the 2700 and 2700x perform near identical so just use the 2700x data.

If you want the fastest of the 2, go with the R5 3600. If you just want to build a new computer and not mess with it for years, I'd go with the R5 3600.

Thank u so much

The Hyper 212 is finally getting a revision with an updated mounting system. It only took 9 years and 4 revisions.

thank god. its a bitch getting it off of old processors
They should have done it years ago. There's a lot of other alternatives now that match or beat the performance at the same or less price range. Even the Wraith Prism from AMD performs close enough to the 212 to not warrant the upgrade.

Backblaze Hard Drive Stats for 2018
HGST continues to manufacture the most reliable hard drives on the market, but on the whole, there just isn't a particularly high rate of failure among any of them, so cost wins the day. Boring, but substantive data. Very glad to have this resource.

Ryzen 1600 for $85 on Amazon
Ryzen 2600 for $115 on Amazon
Ryzen 2700 for $150 on Ebay Newegg store
Ryzen 2700x with Prism for $165 on Newegg
Pair any one with a decent motherboard like the GIGABYTE B450 AORUS Elite for $100, 16gb's of DDR4 3200 for $65, and either cpu for less than the cost of an i7 just a couple years ago. The 7700k was released at a price of $340 in 2017 and only had 4/8 cores.

Its amazing how fast the Pci-e gen3 M.2 SSD's are dropping in price.

Prices are pretty good on everything but cases and power supplies. For power supplies look at 550w or higher, 500w and under got hit by the tariffs.
Even monitors are getting cheap. You can get an 24" LG 1080p 75hz FreeSync monitor for $100.
Where we're at with 1080p gaming is amazing imo. An RX580 8gb, which are hitting $160, paired with just about any 3rd gen or newer i5 will give you a good 1080p 60fps med-high detail gaming experience on a lot of games. If you're using a 750ti or 7850 this is the time to upgrade.

EK's new AIO cooler is up for preorder. $81 for 120mm, $108 for 240mm, $140 for 360mm. Non Asetek design, not expandable, and includes Vardar argb fans. I really wish more AIO's would to the side by side outlet on the blocks rather top/bottom, it can help make things look more clean.

That's in-store only. If one is near a Microcenter the R5-2600X for $109 or the R5-3600 for $169 are the better deals, IMO.

The 3800X was just on Amazon this past week (with the lesser Wraith Prism CPU cooler instead of the Wraith Max) for $267.

they only come with prism/spire/stealth. i don't think any come with max.

The Prism is just the Max with RGB.

i'm not sure that's exactly true, but yeah. basically the same difference. iirc, the prism is taller and has a lower tdp rating. *shrugs*

i know the prism was intended to take over the max, but they still seem to make them and some still swear they're better.

did you mean to say the spire (re: lesser cooler)?

The only difference is that AMD tweaked the block to add direct contact with the Prism, and added the RGB. That's why the Prism actually out-performs the Max at max fan speeds, but they're otherwise identical.
