How is Aspinall a paper champion? I assume you don't consider Jon a paper champion yet he simply won a vacant title against his perfect style match up. An opponent who was never a champion himself. He never defended that paper title against a current #1 contender. He had to be stripped of that title rather than defend and unify against the Reigning, Defending Interim UFC HW champion.

Jon had one adverse opponent and didn't even show up. That's far worse than refusing to keep fighting a kickboxer when they double eye gouge you.

Tom fought Pavlov for the real belt. Jon and Stipe were booked for a fight with Pav as the official back up. When Jon fell out Stipe was also out. That made Tom vs Pav for the real belt. Jon was injured and they booked an Interim title fight. As soon as an Interim champion is crowned Jon's belt was no longer "Undisputed". His failure to Unify is 100% on Jon. He forfeited his title forcing the UFC to strip him.

Blaydes was 4-1 in his last 5 on a 3 fight win streak. Never had a title shot.

Neither of them beat the previous champ so there is no more legitimacy for either Jon's or Tom's belt. That Jon defended means little when he actively avoided defending it against the interim champ, despite that it's the only proper thing to do as the title was disputed, and instead went for a guy who hadn't won a fight in four years. Tom's defense of the interim title was more legit in that light.

It's really funny trying to discredit Tom for not fighting for the real title when the only reason he didn't is that Jon ducked him. Even more so when praising Jon at the same time.

Yes Jon did. Why do you think Gane was ranked #1? The UFC are very good at manipulating rankings when they so desire.

Gane was on a 1 fight win streak. Beating Tai Tuivasa doesn't make him the best HW at the time Jon chose to resurface. That was as soon as Francis was gone.

Since you are using Tapology rankings did you notice Blaydes, Pavlovich, Volkov and Aspinall were 2-5? None of them have had a title shot while Gane just lost his? #1 contenders that lose to the champion never drop a spot as a matter of who knows what? Miss your title shot as #1 contender and stay #1 contender? Makes very little sense.

Blaydes, Pav, Volkov and Aspinall all stand a better chance against Jones and have some path to victory, while Gane literally has zero chance against him. Blaydes has one shot power if he lands and is a top tier wrestler in MMA. Volkov has the reach to give Jon a challenge similar to Gus but an actual HW. Pav has that one shot KO power Jones has never faced. Aspinall is well rounded and has KO power and poses a submission and GnP threat. Not claiming any or all would be favourites. Just that Gane is posing literally ZERO threat to Jon. There is a reason he fought Gane and then the retired Stipe but never unified against Tom.

To be fair Gane was also about a minute away from beating Ngannou but went for some dumb submission, got reversed and lost the decisive round so he was probably the best available HW for Jones to fight at the time.

Him tuning up Tom before the eye poke is another indication of that.

If you're going to talk about "the real belt" I don't know why you're promoting anything that's not actually beating the champion. That's the only thing that stands out, the other things are just words on a paper. And as I said, even regarding the non-interim title he did all he could to fight for it but Jon ducked him despite that uniting the titles is the only relevant thing when the title is disputed, so when comparing Tom and Jon that particular thing is a knock on Jon, not Tom.

But at least you're amusing in your obvious bias. Gane gets credit for "almost beating" Ngannou but Tom apparently downright lost to Gane in a fight that was ended because Gane fouled him. It's about as clear as lights on a Christmas tree.
