Gable Steveson Hype?

I didn't realize how small he is. 6'1 with only 74 inch reach. Reminds me of a Deron Winn HW. Obviously we know his wrestling is legit and HW is shit but I have a feeling this isn't going to play out as well as many think.

That was a pretty horrific loophole in the law. I'm glad they finally closed it because it was basically an open field for rapists.

You guys are comparing Steveson to 2' 11" middleweight Deron Winn? SMDH. 6' 1" is plenty tall for HW if everything else is dialed in, especially with elite wrestling. If Steveson ends up being a bust in MMA, it won't be because of his height.

I don't know about next to DC, but here he is standing barefoot next to 6' 3" Brock with shoes on. Other than probably being on less gear, he looks tall enough for HW to me.

Yea, I don't think he is shorter than DC, so he should be fine with the weight class, just not convinced he is actually 6'1 is all.

He could have a better build, but just needs to adapt to MMA like DC or Cain. Mummy guard or something to help with transitions. I wouldn't say 6'1 is impossible though.

I don't think anyone who follows wrestling has ever thought Steveson was a small HW. He's been competing at 260-265 lbs and the HW limit is 285 lbs in college and 275 lbs for freestyle. Diminishing returns with more size for most heavyweights over around 230. For MMA, If anything he might need to slim down to 240ish like Cain (also 6' 1"), DC, Werdum, Randy, Arlovski, Stipe, etc. Even Aspinall is around 250. Natty jacked 260+ pounders like Ngannou and Brock aren't the norm.

Steveson is more accomplished in wrestling than either Cain or DC but all were high level with shit physiques. It's not a bodybuilding contest.

I have met him, he's legit. I am short shit at 5'7 and was only up to his chin and he seems much thicker than one would expect (I have a pic but I cannot find it). He is at least 6 ft. I think he will be fine in the transition, especially in this era. If he learns a handful of subs and learns some quick transitions from striking to takedowns, he will be number 2 in the UFC.
