Fowlkes nails it yet again (GSP v Diaz)

I have no interest in your job or how people invest their money. Start posting your picks and prove what a true MMA fan can do. I suppose you had Lee over Franklin.

I actually thought it was a toss up with a slight nod to Franklin and that's why I enjoyed that fight because I wasn't 100% sure who was going to win that fight. Lee got knocked out by Wanderlai. Who gets knocked out by Wanderlai anymore? Franklin has knockout power, so it made some sense to expect he could knock Lee out. On the other hand Lee's striking is very good, so maybe he could win it through a decision or a knock out of his own.
Basically, I suspected Lee's chin was weaker and that's why I favoured Franklin.

Good point by Fowlkes.

And it's not like GSP vs. Diaz match-up is that preposterous. BJ Penn challenged Matt Hughes for the WW Title following a close decision loss to GSP (much like Nick lost a closely contested decision to Condit). Granted, it was due to GSP's injury but I am simply using this example to highlight that there is a precedent for this kind of thing.

Really not a good example.

1) BJ already had a win over Hughes (Hughes' only loss in the UFC at that point)
2) GSP got injured as you said so it was a replacement.

Diaz does not have a dominant win over GSP.
Hendricks isn't injured and unable to fight him.

I'm sick of people telling me how to feel about this fight. It's BS that this fight is happening and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. The reason everybody seems to be giving is "there were never any rules to determine title shots to begin with" or some garbage variation on that. I may or may not agree with there are no set rules, but maybe it's time we start having
reasonable guidelines or rules and
not garbage like this guy sure can mouth off and use twitter let's give him a title fight.
Please keep the pro-wrestling out
of MMA
Diaz doesn't deserve the fight.
Hendrick deserves the
fight.

From what I can remember, the only thing Nick has said since after the Condit fight is he's not impressed by his performance, and the video of him talking about GSP/Condit on the way to watch it.

You act like Nick's been on some smear campaign with commercials on all major networks.

And people say Diaz fans are whiny bitches...

It's also based on that GSP has been the guy to bring the most income for the UFC for a long time and he's never asked them for anything when it came to fighting, he just fought whoever they put in front of him. Now he wanted to fight someone and they felt that they owed him that since it's the first time.

Your analogy points in the right direction but doesn't work because the UFC wouldn't have given GSP a fight with a nobody. He got it due to the things above and because he asked for one of the highest ranked fighters in the world. And of course because it will do good business (which means people want to see it).

I think Hendricks should have gotten the fight but it's not a big outrage.

You are assuming that Dana white's explanation is accurate or truthful. Considering his history, I have a hard taking what he says at face vale. its spin most of the time. Instead of just admitting it a money fight- its ufc matchmaker GSPs responsibility

To me, allowing your fighters pick who they fight, especially if they are the champion is one step away from fixing fights.

Dana himself said he would have given Pacquiao an easier fight than Marquez. Creating favorable outcomes for the people you want to protect is BS and kills any type of sports integrity you have.

If UFC wants to be sports entertainment and in the same category as WWE then so be it but most of us want them to be as pure sport as possible.

I hate bringing up old fights because I'm sure Hendricks has improved but if Rick Story was able to take him down GSP would have no problem either.

I agree GSP will inevitably take Hendricks down and I'd expect him to beat Hendricks in rather lopsided fashion, but I also think Hendricks would be able to at least stuff a few TD attempts in the first round or two which should make those rounds tense due to Hendricks power even if he gasses later.

Hendricks at least has the power to threaten GSP early, I don't see anywhere where Nick poses that kind of threat to GSP.

The only people who thought BJ and Diaz had a chance in their fights were delusional fans. Any real MMA fan with a brain knew how those to fights were going to end up.

I get it. You like to see guys "bang."

Can I have your house if diaz wins?

People will bitch and complain all day, but when the fight finally goes down, everyone will be pumped to see it

Title shots after losses are just plain old bad for the sport. Fighters are suposed to climb up the ladder to a title shot, not fall down the ladder to a title shot!

here's my take on this argument,

these guys are already the best in the world, you take the top 15 guys and you'd get competitive fights, and most of them have spent years and year and years pre ufc doing mma. they all deserve a shot.

For someone like Hendricks who has been doing it for like 3 years, yeah ok buddy we see you but nick has been around for 10 years. that's how i feel about it. mma fandom only thinks about the here and now fights, not what it took to even get to at that level.

and no wrestling matches isn't the same as mma.

How long Nick has been around in comparison to Hendricks is completely irrelevant. In fact it only strengthens Hendricks case because in the time he's been around he's beaten better fighters than Nick has.

the massive amount of butthurt on these forums afterwards will be awesome at least

Dana has said the only reason its being made is because GSP "asked for it"

What happens if GSP asks for Colton Smith? Are they going to set that match up?

Dana blatantly lied then, it's happening because Dana White wants to see it.

I'd watch diaz GSP just to shut up all the annoying Diaz butt huggers

dude will never beat a wrestler

As much as I'm looking forward to the fight, I have to agree.

It's decisions like this that confirm the UFC is a business, and that MMA isn't a legitimate 'sport'...

I too fell for the illusion for a long while when I first became a fan.

Now that I have gotten over it I just hope that there are not fixed fights.

That would be the end for me as a fan. I know there was some of that stuff in the early days but I really do not want to find out we are being manipulated as fans.

I hate MMA critics. Or any critics. What makes them different from any Sherdog poster?

Even worse, their career is judging people's efforts for a living.
