For people who think Merab can beat Umar

What are you seeing that I'm not seing?

His only strength is the cardio/Wrestling/Pressure.
He is not going to outgrapple Umar, and Umar is going to pick him apart from the outside.

Merab has litereally NOTHING for Umar striking wise. The only way is the get to the inside and try to wrestle someone who has titanium wrestling skills.
We talk about cardio. But cardio is directly connected with your confidence. Once Merab lose the confidence behind the "how to break my opponent", I'm very curious to see how much his cardio is going to hold, while getting head/body kicked back and forth.

Younger right in everything except your assessment of Umars cardio

@Rayess will abandon this thread like all smartasses who think they're just the smartest and end up being wrong

Always makes me smile when some dumb noob like the TS makes a bold prediction, calls everyone who disagrees stupid, and then gets owned the day after the fight. The MMA gods are funny like that.

So... Did his message age well or nah?
<JonesLaugh>

It's not like Umar got completely dominated. It was a high high level fight.
But yea Merab is a savage, I don't understand why he seemed scared to fight Umar and was trying to get the Petr Yan instead. His confidence stayed at 100% and that's what I wanted to see.

Fair enough, I just believe end of the fight that Umar will have more control, more takedowns, defend more in MMA. I wouldn't be shocked to see more trips used in this fight. Merab does 1 thing well, and his cardio and pressure do the rest of the work. It's going to be great to see these guys clash. DC vs Jones at BW.
Please don't compare either of these guys to DC vs Jones

I'll eat crow on one thing: It's just that merab seems to be that simple, honest guy type who says whatever is in his mind, even if it sounds bad. He was never ducking Umar, he called out the bullshit and absurdity of Umar getting a title shot out of thin air. And guess what? He was right. He proved it with a clear win. Umar was literally in survival mode since the 4th.

The only elite grappler Merab fought is Cejudo, who dropped him and took him down and controlled him before gassing. Cejudo is smaller, less skilled (ant this stage) and far older than Umar and had plenty of success.

And it’s not Umar is “probably” a better striker, he is 100% a better striker, the improvements and speed he showed against Sandhagen were insanely impressive.

Merab has peaked but Umar is only getting better still, it’s going to be a real tough fight stylistically for Merab, literally has to set an insane pace and constantly go through the fire to break Umar’s spirit.

Compelling shit.
Great analysis, Liked this post before commenting on it now but having just re-read the thread....

Yes, Spot on. Merab literally had to put on an insane pace and constantly go through the fire to break umars spirit.

I was surprised even though I thought merab was going to win how well he did on his feet. He wasn't the better striker but he was landing and standing in the pocket. I think that messed Umar up, there wasn't anywhere to rest at all.

I think Umar will destroy Merab everywhere. However there could be a scenario where Merab gets his pressure rhythm and somehow gets Umar on his back foot the whole fight. Maybe looks ugly like Merab/Aldo.

That's giving Merab the best night of his life and maybe Umar off. I don't think cardio is going to be enough to overwhelm to matter. If Umar counters the clinch and takes Merab down it's a wrap.

Perhaps another is Umar has poor game planning and takes off every other round and Merab can stall in clinch to edge out a close ugly decision.

I still think Merab has very few ways to win and Umar could basically beat Merab by almost every way except KO. Umar can win as aggressor or on backfoot much more comfortably than Merab. Even when Sandhagen was playing his game perfect, Umar was unbroken and his will eventually took over.

Anyone who says "tons of people are underrating Merab" then mysteriously providing no real reasons are playing contrarian for the sake of it.
"I think Umar will destroy Merab everywhere.".

Although I agree with your assessment of cardio, now I would rate Merab 10 which I changed mine to before the fight and I'd give Umar a 7 or 8. I would adjust a few of my other rankings but I gave you who would win and even the scores before the fight. I think you underestimated Merab's wrestling and striking. Umar is clearly the better striker but the gap isn't that wide. Umar is light years ahead kicking but the boxing is very close. Merab's wrestling nullified the kicking game and the wrestling was cancelling each other out in the beginning of the fight. Umar was ahead after the first two rounds (I had Umar winning both rounds and Merab winning the last 3). Umar's striking was the difference in the first 2 rounds. In the 3rd, Merab started to turn the tide due to cardio. My point is Merab isn't only cardio and pace. If he didn't have the other skills, Umar might have been taking Merab down and controlling him or hurting Merab. Merab hung in there and was competitive until his pace took over.

Wasn't expecting Umar to get that tired but thats just a testament to the type of pressure and pace Merab puts on a guy, great fight.

Without reading through the thread im sure there are a lot of "this aged like milk" comments.

Everything you said was accurate lol. Merab couldn't take Umar down, got roughed up in the striking, had his back taken and was controlled a good bit for the first half.
I really didn't think a member of Khabibs team would gas as badly as Umar did....it was really ridiculous to see. Like the guy thought this was a 3 rounder. If he had even slightly better cardio, yes he beats Merab.
