Floyd Mayweather Jr. retires?

Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't. Mayweather doesn't want to find out. That's the reality.

And if I recall Mayweather only took the Hatton fight after Ricky called Floyd out publicly. He very well might not have taken the fight if not for that. It's not like it was Floyd that brought that fight on.

Problem for Floyd is that the winner of Cotto/Margarito has every right to call him out again. And he doesn't want to fight either of them.

You recall incorrectly. Hatton was offered the chance to fight Floyd more than once.

There is no problem for Floyd. If Margarito beats Cotto, then Cotto gets a rematch with Margarito. If Cotto beats Margarito, then he can crow about Floyd all he wants.

Boxing, however, is a business. The point of a business? To make money.

Floyd has done that. In spades. The fact that he's willing to walk away from a bigger payday (against Oscar) than he would get from fighting Cotto and Margarito twice each speaks volumes.

Floyd isn't avoiding any one fighter, two fighters, or anybody in particular. If this is legit, he's just tired of fighting. When you've done anything for 26 years of your life as a career and you're not burnt out, then you can bitch about it.

Margarito's punch totals are ridiculous. Nobody throws like this guy.

Again, Paul Williams would like to have a word with you about whether or not "nobody" throws like him.

For that matter, so would Daniel Santos.

Is anybody else sick of hearing Mayweathers name in the paper?

If he could just disappear off the face of the earth for about a year than come back and face Cotto than disappear for good id be a happy man.

Best post evah!

Some guy in the heavies referring to himself against Mayweather

"amen. I'd be willing to bet even a mma noob (although I have competed in boxing, TKD, wrestling, etc..) like me could make him aern his money. I'd still lose (more than likely) but I bet I could get through three with him as long as I cuold close the gap. I know you could"

I don't know about you, but I'd pay to see Mayweather fight a member of our Heavyweight forum.

But didn't he say he was retired after the first De La Hoya fight?

Honestly,

I've decided I will never go to the heavyweight forum again. Everytime I venture into that forum I actually get very irritated and angry. And I actually feel my brain cells gradually dying.

Believe it or not comments like that is the norm in the heavies. For someone who is most likely fat, out of shape and a complete sissy to actually think he can beat Mayweather is absolutely ridiculous. TKD background? Yeah I bet that will work. People need to realize that Mayweather is currently the best boxer in the world and hes an athletic freak. I doubt a guy in the heavies could even lay a hand on Mayweather. Mayweather without a wrestling background would still stuff every pathetic takedown attempt and than proceed to turn the scrubs face into grinded up burger meat. Mayweather vs. a guy in the heavies would look incredibly similar to the Johnson/Speer fight on the TUF finale.

Its comments like these that have given me a logical reason to hate 90% of MMA fans. I just cant even have a normal conversation with any of them. I just cant get past their tapout shirts and tribal tattoos. Their whole attitude just irritates me to no end.

HAHA, I cant stand the heavies. Just talking about it makes me angry.:D

I'm not gonna say my opinion on dis at da risk of a card. There is no doubt dat he is pound for pound the best, holding 5 titles each in a different weight class and winning a bronze medal. May 5th 2007 was his fight against Oscar De La Hoya. I YouTubed dat entire fight and I was ... to say dat it disgusted a lotta fans of da sport because he won a split decision and he didn't do much of anything to him.
A lotta ppl thought he would fight De La Hoya again probably because he heard what the poeple thought of 'em. I do agree with some of the replies tho. If the money's right, we'll see him in action again and perhaps we will see the rematch. He's at his peak and we might see him back in the ring. Or, he could make his transition to MMA like I've been hearing he might do and we'll see how he'll do there.

im in the same boat 100%

People said the same referring on Hatton. And fans will say the same referring on another WW even if Floyd beats Cotto/Marga. Neither one could beat Floyd imo.

no, not really. back when they were both at 140 maybe.

but most educated observers thought Hatton was woefully undersized, while Mayweather grew into not necessarily a big welterweight, but a very solid one with underrated power.

it was a complete mismatch. Maqyweather's last ww fight was baldimor, before that judah off a loss. not exactly murderers row, not exactly all time great stuff.

all time greats clean out their division. especially all time great welterweights. you never know who will be the toughest challenge when you are a great champion. might be Cotto, might be Williams, maybe its Clottey of all people. you just dont know.

all time greats leave no question. FLoyd left a lot. But his supporters like to argue that his talent is enough and the fights didnt really have to happen because hes so good. thats not how it works, bottom line.

Mayweather is a talented boxer but an arrogant jerkoff. Nobody will miss him.

Let Mayweather get into the octagon and see what happens.

Boxing is now complete garbage with bullshit decisions.
Long live MMA!

Like what? Not fighting Cotto? Mayweather may not clean out the welterweight division, but who else was there for him to fight in the lower divisions?

Nobody will miss him.

I will.

Great at 130-135, but could have fought better competition when he moved up to 140 and above.

When he made his initial jump to 140, he should have went right after Kostya Tsyzu, who was the champion at the time. Instead he went after Gatti, the beloved blood and guts warrior & b,c class fighter. He probably could have fought Hatton at his optimal weight. After he did that, he could have jumped to 147. But when he did move to 147, the only dangerous guy he fought was Zab Judah, who just came off an embarrassing lost to Carlos Baldomir. And none of you can seriously think Baldomir had any chance from a technical standpoint. Mismatch. Sharmba Mitchell? Old, spent, undersized Sharmba Mitchell? Woot! When Mayweather made his entrance at 147, it was HOT and it still is. He could have went after Cintron, Magarito, Cotto, Clottey, Mosley, Williams. I know it would be difficult to setup all those fights, but he could have replaced crap baldo and mitchell with two of those guys and I would have been happy. As for de la hoya fight. Fair enough. It's a big payday, big name, and he is still a fair fighter at his age. But the best at 154 at the time would have been Winky. And while not the most exciting fighter, people know who Winky is. He should have went after him de la hoya. Instead he went after Hatton at 147, Hatton's epic fail weight. Wookie!

*On talent alone, he break into the top 35. Winning belts in five divisions, maybe reach top 30. But his list is not necessarily the greatest of all time from 140 and above. Mayweather IMO caps out at top 30. None of you should be so generous to put him in the top 20.
