Floyd Mayweather Jr. retires?

You are dead wrong. They are both already foaming at the mouth to fight De La Hoya.

True.. but I think given that Mayweather would have likely beatin DLH once again, that that fight would have lost steam.

MMA forum is saying Dana Whites big announcement is Floyd Mayweather.

If floyd goes mma, he's gonna get torn up.. he may beat some of the low tier guys at 155, but no way he even competes with anybody at the top.. it would be like them trying to box him.

i say good he never respected the sport did nothing 2 promote it only himself. he deosn't want 2 face cotto or antonio. the noise will just keep gettin louder and louder till him fought 1 and he really doesn't want to. maybe machida will follow after him.

I know most of us just think it's a ploy to sell tickets... but if Floyd really retires, does anyone think he's First Ballet hall of famer?

I'd say without question. One of the best of all time. Incredible footwork/movement.

Really? Wow. Can't imagine him wanting to do that. He's a gifted athlete, but there are limits to what you can do. Plus, the money would suck from his perspective.

I still think he'll be back if the money is right, and I hope to see him display his skills again in the ring.
Good luck to Floyd in whatever he chooses to do.

Odd that the P4P best fighter in the sport is retiring and I don't give a shit.

I guess it's because I expected nothing more from Mayweather than a continuation of strategically picked fights.

On the De La Hoya rematch, I'm a huge Oscar fan going way back---BUT---what would fighting PBF again do for him? Another schooling?
Then again, I guess if he gets another $53,000,000 for fighting Mayweather (SI.com - The Fortunate 50), another schooling wouldn't be so bad.

They're talking about it on ESPN 2 right now...

damn...didn't think of that. De La Hoya Vs either becomes the next superfight?!

That was always the next big fight. Had Mayweather opted to stay active and not fight Oscar, did you think Cotto would oblige Floyd? It's unrealistic what people were asking of Floyd- bypass Oscar and wait for Cotto to replace his (Floyd's) superstar status. Then go negotiate with Top Rank after letting them steal your thunder.

this is sweet because we don't have to watch odlh and hatton 2's but sucks because if he really does retire we'll never see him at his best again.

fun to watch.

I don't believe it at all. Any way you look at it, he comes back for more fights. He's been trying to assert himself as famous in places besides boxing, and he hasn't pulle dit off. Whatever he plans to do during his 'retirement' won't make him famous and he'l com back, I think.
Hey, a positive in this is that it frees up The Ring's welter title. Cotto and Margarito should be the fight for the belt.

This time, if he says he is going to retire, stay fucking retired. His heart is into earning money, not to seek the best challenges.

As for being a first ballot hall of fame. Yes, he definitely will be. But years from now when we look at his career in retrospect, they will say he is one of those what might have been fighters. He never really had that career defining fight. He never took on the best competition available when he moved up. Would he rank in the top 10 best? Hell no! Would he be in the top 20? No! Would he be in the top 30? That is debatable. 20-30 years from now people will think of in the same light as Galaxy and Ricardo Lopez (maybe a little bit above). He fought really good fighters at 130-135, but I feel that he could have chose his competition from 140 and above a lot better. De la hoya was too old and Hatton was tailor made. His career highlights are Diego Corales and Jose Luis Castilo.

what will PBF, MJ and Jay Z have in common in the near future?

He will be back in year or two. More than likely against Cotto or another hot name. he is to young with too much money out there to walk away from.
I think the whole thing with his dad is wearing on him so he wants some peace from it. His dad seemed like he was going to be in the Dela Hoya corner this time. If that fight in sept. would have taken place Oscar would have won it.
