Finnegan's Wake

I was thinking of making a volume weight moved deadlift challenge, do whatever weight you tihnk would lead to the most total weight moved in 5 mins

Interesting idea. But the weight used would probably be pretty light. Even strong guys like finny would probably move more overall weight if they used 225 lbs or even less. If the timelimit would be one or two minutes - different story.

New Albany is literally like 10 minutes away on the other side of the river. Yeah, a good Sat. training session works for me. We'll figure something out.

Oh, ok. Brain fart for me. I forgot L-ville was right along the border... I usually take 264 between 65 and 71, and even when I go through downtown, I never think about the river bein' the state line. Indiana was just never on my radar. lol.

Guys, I'm getting some first pick tickets for this. It'll be 20 for general admission, 25 for 2nd row, and 30 for front row. As soon as I get confirmation I'm on the card, I'll try to secure some for anyone who shows up.
If you guys can stay in thea area, I've got some crash space for an afterparty as well.

Finn, if I didn't live 12 hours away I'd come to the fight. So a video will have to suffice for me.

MMA:
1 hour

Conditioning:
6 rounds, three minutes each w/ one minute rest

Rd 1: Hang off the Thai bag using gable grip and closed gaurd
Rd 2: Elbows and Knees on "Bob"
Rd 3: Combos ending in sprawls
Rd 4: Sledgehammer (I did 10 one handed each arm, then 20 regular. It was nice)
Rd 5: Jump Rope (alternated sprint in place w/ normal roughly 10/30)
Rd 6: combos on the "Bob" (I practiced some high kicks as well...)

Grappling:
6 three minute rounds w/ approx 60-90 seconds rest

Highlights:
Well, my sparring partner this time was a 155 TKD guy whose total grappling experience is one month in class (gotta give it to him, bastard can shrimp really well to regain gaurd) , so I'll spare the list of transitions, dominant positions, etc. On the technical grappling parts, I will say that my positioning in side mount was much improved.
- Got a kneebar. He tapped before I even extended it
-Tapped him w/ a body triangle. That was interesting.

Lowlights:
Um...I didn't get as many submissions as I expected to. I forgot "position before submission" a bit on some armbar attempts. Didn't attempt any shots.

Impressions:
Decent night overall. The only thing that sucked the life out of me in conditioning was the sprawls. I spent more time helping the TKD guy understand why his subs weren't working than anything else. He's got a lot of potential (esp considering he's 6'2, 155 lbs without cutting any weight).
As a side note: DayQuil was an awesome PreWorkout supplement.

Thanks fin - I think that is over my spring break.

BTW – your training is god-damn impressive.

I think your conditioning is getting as impressive if not more so than your lifting. Awesome job Finny.

Question: When I'm moving into range for a jab, should I move already be rotating my front foot so I land in position, or move in and then rotate the foot?

Depends, Finn. If you're closing the range BEHIND the jab, and you're looking for it to be a stiff power jab, it's really important that you pop that lead hip forward (imagine you're trying to turn your ass cheek to point at your opponent). Whether or not your lead foot rotates or not before the pull is entirely up to you and what you're comfy with. I find that yes, my foot will land slightly turned. The punch should be connecting at almost the exact moment that your foot makes contact with the ground; it really is all about that rear foot driving and that lead hip popping.
