Fighting Games Discussion

The real game they need to bring back is CVS2. That was one of my most played fighters growing up. The London stage has the best OST for any fighting game level ever. Don't @ me.

I really wanted to like that game, but it just wasn't for me. I prefered 3rd Strike and MVC2.

However, Eagle was very fun to play.

I got guilty gear strive. I was used to BlazBlue and the combat is different

who you looking to main?
No idea to be honest, I played some guilty gear on PSP if I remember right, but I haven't played enough of this one to say. I'm having a hard time to learn how to combo, I was very used to the way of linking attacks, weak to mid to heavy, and that doesn't work in here.

I guess I'll start playing with Sol, as it feels very similar to ragna.

Btw, the command grab of Potemkin is insane, takes about half a bar

Still on SFV boat, too bad is about to end, March 2022 will be very last gameplay patch

Waiting SF6 both hyped (new SF), scared (Capcom go western/woke?), great expectation (years to play) and depressed (years to get full cast all over again)
Mixed feels

Would LOVE a Capcom vs SNK3 3, but fear we will get another marvel bullshit

I used to love a lot Soul Calibur too, but series lost it's charm
To be fair SC6 had plenty of good intentions, but feels like someway crippled

I think the charm is still there but they really did play around with the gameplay too much to the point where the competitive scene has mostly abandoned it. It did well sales-wise considering it warranted a second season pass so hopefully they tighten things up and make a SC7 (with rollback ffs).

SC6 is amazing but for a boomer like me the meter and reversal edge stuff is too much to get used to. I’ve been playing Sophitia for so many years and she plays great in the game but damn am I clueless about the new mechanics and it’s hard to get used to them

That used to work, but combos are limited compared to previous Guilty Gear titles and that seems to be the biggest complaint about Strive. The game certainly feels slower.

Fighting games don’t last long online unlike Tekken which seems to be the only one that is consistently active over the years. I went back to playing Tekken 7 lately and it keeps showing 3,000-4,000 players online and have no issues finding opponents.

Tekken, while well loved, isn't the only game with an active player base. If a Street Fighter game comes out that's universally loved by most players, it will capture a good part of the market share.

The last 30 days
Tekken 7 has had an average of 4,033 players
SFV has had an average of 2,236 players
DBZ has had an average of 1,512 players
MK11 has had an average of 1,335 players

This. Guilty Gear also had an average of 3,639 players.

will there be a fighting game that catches the eye of the casual fan base and keeps them interested?

The fact you lose a game is all on you keeps casual's away. Team based games you can blame someone else.

I don't think it is that, it is because labbing is boring and antisocial. With shooters/mobas/sports games to practice you just play other people and have fun doing so.

People will always be down to play rounds of SF/Smash/MK if you boot it up hanging with the boiiiiis but anything past that will always be a struggle

It's a mix between the two, imo. Fighting games are hard and the labbing is, as you mentioned, boring for some people. The fact you can get stomped out 0-40 is demoralizing and people don't like to lose that often. In shooters and sports games, evern making one 3-pointer in NBA2k, a couple of kills in COD and a win in a team game helps solidify the fun you're having while in FG's there is nothing there to motivate you unless you feel like you're making progress by landing 1-2 combos in a game.

You're right, fighting games are a chore, but losing over and over again really hurts keeping casuals. It's why FG devs have always looked for an easy mode. To cut back on labbing and provide a comeback chance of winning.

Cant forget balance patches too! You learn a character and a few matchups then the nerf or change mechanics and you are forced to relearn said character again!
Not everyone has hours to put into the lab like this is a job, some people just want a few flashy combos to kick their friends asses!
