Fighting Games Discussion

Cant forget balance patches too! You learn a character and a few matchups then the nerf or change mechanics and you are forced to relearn said character again!
Not everyone has hours to put into the lab like this is a job, some people just want a few flashy combos to kick their friends asses!

That's why Smash is so popular.

will there be a fighting game that catches the eye of the casual fan base and keeps them interested?

The fact you lose a game is all on you keeps casual's away. Team based games you can blame someone else.

Team based games are more fun to play with friends generally speaking. I say this even as someone who loves fighting games. Playing with a group of friends at the same time like in a shooter, or MMO type game a lot of times is more fun than taking turns playing fighting games. Also, if one guy gets really good at afighting game and the rest of the friends don't, then it's not really fun for anyone. In team based games, even if one of your friends sucks ass, it doesn't really matter too much since you try to win as a team.

I don't think it's mainly about blaming someone for losses. Because let's be honest... fighting game players ALWAYS complain about the other character being cheap, lag, their character sucks, bad matchup etc. etc.

I think the social aspects of team based games and the general low level entry to have fun is what makes them more appealing. Also, tons of games have "seasons" which keeps people coming back or trying to unlock more stuff. Fighting games general don't have that and even if they do, you have to go through the grind alone and not with friends.

I didn't even watch Evo this year, damn shame what has become of it. I did see that fat fuck putting around in his tiny car a few months ago.

From my experience the real fun with casuals playing fighting games is when it's in person and you're passing around the controllers in a living room. There is a lot less of that going on these days with the online aspect, which personally I'm not a fan of. I much prefer playing with friends in person. I have a friend that I've been battling in Tekken since the first Tekken Tag game and we always have the funnest competitive matches.

That game looks fun, I just hate how all of those Anime fighters never shut up and have to say something with every move. Grunts and yells are fine, the talking is just annoying.

Heh, I can understand that.

From reading reviews, it seems like autocombos are the biggest complaint. I don't remember the older games being that difficult to begin with so what's the need for this?

Although it's an anime fighter, I'd say Under Night In-Birth is the most fun fighting game right now. Too bad the online is crap.

I think if a big ip goes the free to play route it might help. Problem is the recent trend of catering too much to casuals might turn off the hard-core player base.

Lol the Abel player should have switched his gameplan immediately. You can't try that stuff on someone who plays "different." Here's the best (and funniest) example IMO:

When a skilled player also has a risky streak in him it's very hard to play against. Umeshoryu is the best example of that.

I'll continue to keep pushing this game that is in early access because it is tremendous and easily the best sword combat game of all time already: HELLISH QUART

This is being made by people that worked on The Witcher III - The guy that did the character models/animations and the music producer.

They released footage of a new character: A Drunken Priest with a Longsword:

That's true. He did it to Gamerbee several times at that same tournament.
