Fighting Games Discussion

Daigo forgot to renew his visa and wasn't allowed to board his flight to vegas <36>

Someone get that man into AA or something. His drinking problem knows no limits.

Edit: according to Fuudo everything is set up now for Daigo to leave tomorrow. Still hilarious.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!

One of the LEGENDS of the FGC just.. SPACES OUT on his visa for THE PREMIER FGT in the WORLD??!!?

They could easily not being fucking morons, but its the FGC and the people in charge of running tournaments don't care about the scene or viewer experience. I had a convo about this the other day, where some of the oldschool guys actually think this isn't a complete work. Back in the day people didn't get paid because the events didnt make any money. Now the events make money at the expense of the support. When we ran our 2 tournaments a year, every dollar we made went to the venue, event costs, and prize pool. Everyone involved (granted at a smaller scale) worked for free, but they also could enter tournaments. So if we ran a SF4/Smash/insert other game. The SF4/Smash enrollment all went to prize pool after event costs. They subsidized the other games.

So for instance, if we got 100 SF4 players and 100 smash players, we'd have a $5 sign up fee and $15 registration for one game. So that's 4 grand to fund the event. IIRC it was 2300 for the venue and then a bunch of other expenses for tables and shit. So it was like 3 grand to run the event in a 300 capacity banquet hall. We had people bring their consoles to help out so we wouldn't have to pay out to rent equipment. This btw - I know the guys they rent from. I can easily get a good deal, but its not feasible on a smaller level.

Obviously there was more money, but the prize pools would always go out to the players. The discount for multiple game registration was also going toward the pot. I remember in 2009 I walked out with $200 that was not accounted for. So we talked to the winners and they agreed we should just use that towards going to dinner/drinks after for the people who worked the event. We made nothing. Some of the people who "helped" are now running major tournaments.

I wish I was good at Mortal Kombat but I'm only good at Street Fighter and Tekken if the moves and timing is the same as the old school games.

Mortal Kombat looks the coolest to me. I try to play it and everytime I get combo'd into oblivion.
