Fighters who retired too early

Me too, Rich was so well rounded and a great fighter, I was shocked how Anderson destroyed him. I knew how accurate and fast Anderson was, but I still thought it would be a much closer fight.

Rich fought lots of guys who probably weren't natural too...

Martin Kampmann was a gamer and retired on a FOTN match against Condit where both guys had awesome moments. Would have liked to see him take some time off recover and retool and make a comeback

He was pretty good for sure. He had a lot of mileage on him though. I'm sure he would've been competitive against a lot of guys still.

Yeah he also subbed Wagnney Fabiano who was a 5th Degree Black Belt and was a huge upset at the time.

okay i think i was getting it mixed up maybe.

he did get subbed by purple belt when he was a brown belt, and then a year after, he got his bjj black belt.
he subbed fabiano as a purple belt I think

been a while lol

Mendes no doubt retired at a great time, dude went to War with Aldo, got TKO'd by Conor, got knocked the fuck out by Frankie, all within 2 years before the Volk fight, then got TKO'd by him, homie can only take so much brain damage and probably knew he would never win a belt at that point

Mendes was a hell of a fighter though. Just went through a murderer's row. Wrong place wrong time.

Ronda had more fight left
Khabib tucked his tail and ran
What happened to Miguel Torres?

miguel torres hype was insane. i kept telling ppl but they didnt listen. what happened to him was he kept losing, went to a minor league, lost some more.

he DID get robbed against Mighty Mouse at 135 though.

I dunno man, it's possible that was kind of the dark ages of MMA when Zuffa was just starting to get their shit together. I started following the sport in 2002 and he was already on his way out. Dude was 24 years old and 16-0....damn shame.

yeah just not sure about the guy he looks good though on paper but that's all i got rly.

Are you thinking of when he got subbed in the UFC by Daniel Pineda maybe? His only other sub loss was to Javier Vazquez in the WEC who was a really high level black belt.

yeah Pineda was a purple belt. But I think i got it mixed up the other way around with the other fight.

or Prime JDS was THAT GOOD.

He's probably better than Aspinall head to head. Too bad he ran into prime Cain and had to fight him three times.
He was good of course but Carwin wasnt just beat he was utterly dominated, one of the most one sided matches between two elite HW's we've seen.

Carwin obviously had power but technically I think he was always very limited as a striker, personally I suspect he over performed a bit with matches like Mir and Gonzaga and if he'd stayed around longer he'd have taken a lot of punishment.

Jack Ho*?

...

Not sure if serious or not lol
He was my very first opponent in the cage, was excited to see how far he could go on the professional level. Retired 3-0 professional... why would I not be serious?
It just says fighters who retired early, not UFC fighters who retired early.

Interesting that he chose to quit after facing a challenger who didn't just fall by the wayside and arguably beat him.

Good point, I personally think the selectively enforced drug testing had a significant part to play in him retiring, coming back to fight another clean skin, then calling it done for good.

probably, but Overeem starched Sergei(by td and gnp) and Sergei looked fine since.

Sometimes it's who you fight too.

It's also that Carwin came from a wrestling background. Too bad we never saw Carwin vs Cain or Cormier.
