Fighters who retired too early

He was my very first opponent in the cage, was excited to see how far he could go on the professional level. Retired 3-0 professional... why would I not be serious?
It just says fighters who retired early, not UFC fighters who retired early.

Well his name is 'jack hoe'...and no one heard about the guy lol

that's pretty cool though he doesn't look too bad either in that video, I guess his amatuer record isn't shown on sherdog though.

it would've been pretty nice story to tell if he became a champ or something, wonder what happened

TJ Grant.

Michael McDonald got fucked over royally. If anyones looking for a breakdown on how fucked up fighter pay is listen to him. He does a great job breaking down how expensive being a UFC fighter is. And McDonald was a title contender at this time who was forced to retire because he just couldn't afford his camps.

I always say the top 5-top 10 guy is the most exploited class in the UFC. And McDonalds where I learned that. Its why these contenders are ducking each other. Fight camps are expensive and they have leverage to get a title shot by waiting why tf would you spend a fortune having a training camp for a fight you don't need.

probably, but Overeem starched Sergei(by td and gnp) and Sergei looked fine since.

Sometimes it's who you fight too.

It's also that Carwin came from a wrestling background. Too bad we never saw Carwin vs Cain or Cormier.
I could I spose we Cain being an interesting one as he did take risks, not totally impossible he walks into a Carwin bomb although I think an upset KO in the first couple of rounds would be his only chance.

Ironically considering the way the fights went I think wrestlers like Lesnar was probably Carwins best style matchup, I don't think his own wrestling was at the same level but he was good enough to stuff them but realy besides Brock there were not too many guys like that at HW.

My guess would be as well the UFC probably were not willing to book Carwin into mid level fights and maybe he saw the punishment this could mean, espeically at age 35+.

He had graduated from college and had a young son, so he focused on his career and family.

Ammy MMA back in those days(In MI) was very unregulated. He had 20 something amateur fights, most not recorded. There are some listed on tapology I believe, but definitely not all.

When I fought him, I walked out to Soldier Boy just for the "superman that ho" line lol

Dude beat wand, henderson, overeem, sakuraba, and arguably Fedor... all in their primes. Retired at just 31yo.

Very good shoutout. He seems happy last I knew at least. Living the dream.

Maddening that Daniel Cormier didn’t know who he was and said “that guy must really suck if he allowed himself to be finished by a powerbomb”. Paraphrasing, but yeah..

Khabib had a lot left in the tank still in the middle of his prime years

but who names their son jack when his last name is ho but i digress lol ho ly fuq lol

but that's good though, he has a career and family, not everyone has that going for themselves.

Michigan isn't the powerhouse for MMA even now, I guess Jamahall hill is repping you guys atm.

We have stamman also, but he's in a slump as of late. Drakkar Klose always comes to bang though. That's about it for us ATM though lol

yeah my thread got merged into the other guy's thread for same title, though i had paragraphs and gifs, but I digress.

had both guys up there on the list, unfortunate about both guys really. I thought Michael retired due to injuries though, first time I heard of that tbh

I don't know how to comment on that, I just get this impression that top5-10 guys get paid well. Depends on how you define well I suppose to be fair. I don't know. But especially now I guess.

GSP is the best example of a fighter choosing the PERFECT time to retire. He fought in almost exclusively title fights for 7 straight years and you could see him starting to decline a bit in his final three fights (excluding the Bisping fight).

because of Carwin's size, power and wrestling, it would've been very interesting fight. Cain is great, but he has always been hittable too, and Cain might be a better MMA wrestler, but Carwin might be able to hold his own enough for as long as he needs.

yeah thats why Carwin vs Cain would've been very interesting

I don't know exactly, but always thought Carwin retired due to injuries or whatever, but been a long time and hard to say. Can't say I was necessarily a big fan or anything.

Yeah I do think it was injuries, but maybe there were other factors too, maybe he did, i'm not too sure, but given his struggles with injuries, you'd think they were likely the main reason? I do wish we saw him fight on...mma can be unforgiving

Cormier doesn't know a lot of MMA in certain areas because I think he wasn't really a fan before he got into MMA.

I wish he fought on, but Arona's been probably banging 9s and 10s since lol

for some reason, I read that as he's been a stump as of late lol, just as true I guess, fights like a moving tree stump lol

Klose does def comes to bang, hope he gets the opportunity to fight Jeremy down the road too

well at least Michigan does have a former LHW champ a pretty recent one at that too tho I guess!

GSP
Khabib
Rich Franklin had a couple more in him
Alex Gustaffson

oh yeah not sure if Gus has been mentioned yet or not, because my thread got merged into the previous one, not amongst the post that followed my thread tho.

Gus...hm...I actually think might have been done when he retired. Kinda like Till. A great prospect, high peaks, but the train came to an end sorta.

he def had no intention of defending that belt at all i'd imagine lol

and would you blame him, it's fighting Bisping of all ppl for double champ status lol
