Fedor is BY FAR the Longest Reigning Consensus #1 Ranked HW

I just wrote a paper for school on why Fedor is the GOAT of MMA. During the writing, I almost switched to GSP. It's tough to ignore a record like that, avenging the losses dominantly. He was in the thick of it..... no breaks for years and years, Matt Hughes/Karo Parisyan in 2004, all the way to Johny Hendricks in 2013, top 10s and 5s all . Honestly, now I'm pretty torn.

Post it.

The problem I have with this is...how many actual title defenses did he have lol. He had some great performances but it's always been a rather weak division. And unfortunately he rarely had the talent to showcase against until going to Affliction & Strikeforce.

Sounds nice till you see his level of comp. From 2006 on his only note worrhy wins were AA and Tim who had already started his fall from the top.

Most guys on top 7 years will have fought much stiffer comp then Fedor ended up fighting.

How do you explain the average age of the TOP 5 HW's being 34.2? Are you saying none of those guys are in their primes? Same age Fedor was when he lost
Yea, they're not in their primes. No athlete is in their prime at 34.

Here's a list of some of the incredible opponents Fedor faced throughout his illustrious career:

Martin Lazarov

Levon Laglivava

Hiroya Takada

Tsuyohsi Kosaka

Mihail Apostolov

Kerry Schall

Ryushi Yanagisawa

Lee Hasdell

Chris Haseman

Egidijus Valavicius

Kazuyuki Fujita

Gary Goodridge

Yuji Nagata

Naoya Ogawa

Zulu

Hong Man Choi

Brett Rogers

Jeff Monson

Satoshi Ishii

Pedro Rizzo

Jaideep Singh

The reason why people like Fedor the best,is not only did he finish much bigger guys for nearly a decade straight without losing, but he went RIGHT at them. Very aggressive style to stay in top for so long. No other hw has ever managed it and probably none ever will.

Quality of competition > "title defenses"

Fedor is GOAT

These long reigns will almost certainly never happen again in combat sports. There is just so much competition now as opposed to back then. Once in a while we'll get dominant champs for a couple years, but nothing like what Fedor did.

GSP also had a marketing campaign designed to prop fighters and no splintering of talent. He also was finished twice in his prime (in case you can't count) and wasn't able to finish.

Fedor is GOAT. GSP was a great fighter.

Plus none was scared to fight GSP in his prime, because of him blanketing everyone.

Fighters were scared of fedor in his prime period.
