Favourite Heel

Yeah, he was working a "Satanist" angle in the mid 80s in the bible belt. Most of you guys may be to0 young to remember and it sounds silly now but devil worshipers in the mid to late 80s were no joke.[/QUOTE]

lulz this is sig worthy!!!

Any recollection on who he was fueding with etc in that angle?

CM Punk was a fantastic heel. He was one of the few wrestlers of this generation who was able to get good heat for his heelish shenanigans.

Trips was such an awesome heel that he got me to hate, then stop watching the show in about '03/'04.:)

Yes!

Learn to love it, because it's the best thing going today.

Huge fan of Jake the Snake Roberts, specifically his heel work. His work with Macho Man was phenomenal, really cold and his promos were amazing.

WCW era Raven for sure, Flair, and maybe the greatest and most underrated heel of all time, Honky Tonk Man.

Two come to mind right away: The first is Bobby Heenan during his great run with the "Heenan Family" (don't call it a stable!). I hated Heenan so much as a kid, and that bled into hating everyone he represented: Studd, Bundy, Orndorff, Rude, etc. And he was at the heart of Andre turning on the Hulkster (and all us little Hulkamaniacs)! That son of a bitch! Those moments when a face got their hands on the weasel were always amazing.

The other, and in a completely different way, is Stone Cold during his initial Stone Cold heel run going after Bret. I had just started to watch wrestling again after about 4 years of not watching, and Stone Cold was probably the first heel that I rooted for. I loved his promos, I loved his swagger, I loved how he went after Bret, I loved how he cheated to win the Rumble, I loved how he called out Rocky at the Slammy's after he finished "second" in the New Sensation category, I loved how he cursed, I loved how he wore jeans, and I super loved that period when he would "forfeit" matches to jobbers and then beat them up anyway.

Oh man, how did I forget Heenan. He's the GOAT. Go to 1:11 for some of the funniest shit you'll ever hear. It actually made me cry the first time I heard it I laughed so hard. He could have been a legendary stand up comedian.

Other great heel promos included Raven telling everybody about how Tommy Dreamer stole his girlfriend at summer camp. Something that goes unsaid is that Raven did most of his best shit in-ring. Only Ric Flair could top his in-ring promo skills. That's in addition to being one of the most decorated "hardcore" wrestlers of all time. Pretty unique skillset.

Which leads me to Flair, which as everyone knows his promos are untouchable. Anything he ever did basically was gold. He deserves as much credit as a great musician or anyone who's amazing at a particular craft. He made that shit look easy, when in reality he's the only one who could do it.

Also I mentioned HTM so I'll defend that choice. You can kind of define the greatness of a heel by how great it was when they finally lost. Ultimate Warrior's intercontinental championship win over HTM is EASILY a top 5 most memorable match of all time for my generation. Everyone knows that match to the point where they could re-enact it without much practice. Think about it. That's greatness.

I wasn't watching during this time but based on the youtube clips, this version of Michael cole was hilarious.

Id have to say macho man, though there are many other great, great heels.

i was watching a wwf (now wwe) documentary and it showed his first match in the wwf (now wwe).

the match was around 15 minutes long, and there was very little wrestling going on, it was essentially savage "introducing himself" to the fans, and wholly shit did they react.

the perfect confluence of arrogance and ability (on the mic and in the ring) and charisma and showmanship.

randy was hated when he first arrived. he didnt just do heel things (fight bad guys, talk smack, etc), he enraged the crowd with his antics.

i loved how he made pomp and circumstance his entrance music. fit the theme perfectly.
anyone else?

It's depressing that nobody on the first page mentioned Piper or Flair.

Google Snuka coconut Piper.

i suppose when i was young hot rod was a heel, but ive always been a fan, at least as far back as i can remember.

to me he was teh anti-heel. he was a bad guy, but he was from the same city i am and he was always too entertaining for me to get really mad at, but again, i was young, so i may not remember accurately-- i suppose in that respect he was one of my favourite heels.

when i was young, wwf was around, and I was not really exposed to NWA or WCW so I didnt have much exposure to flair until I was older--flair and those guys werent on tv, whereas wwf and hulk hogan's ricking wrestling was on saturday mornings.

teh other person that i wish I mentioned in the op was bobby teh brain.

he was a wonderfully hateable heel. he was arrogant, conniving, brash, insulting--he was an asshole.

when a manager gets you to the point that you are (rationally or otherwise) screaming at your television, as bobby often did, at least to me, then he is doing his job.

id say that bobby the brain heenan is definatly in my top 5 favourite heels.
