Jon has already said he won’t defend the belt against interim champ Tom if he beats Stipe. I believe Stipe could be amenable to fighting Tom if he wins.

It wouldn’t change Jon’s status as the GOAT. You don’t lose GOAT status because you lost to the HW GOAT a division above your actual fighting weight when you are well out of your prime and pushing 40 (yes I know Stipe is older, doesn’t change the point).

A stipe win and unification bout against Tom is the best outcome for fight fans. Jon could even go and tackle Poatan at LHW after a loss to Stipe if he wanted to rubber stamp his position in history, but it wouldn’t be necessary.

I do think Jon most likely wins this weekend. But I think a Stipe win is the best outcome for fight fans and the HW division.
