Sadly, the DOJ is not legally required to add any context to the photos being released. They are only required to redact the faces of non public figures in the photographs. Congress could pass a law forcing the DOJ to do this but it most likely won't happen

The DOJ will have to prove in court that their "ongoing cases" are making substantive and continuing progress, otherwise the judges will strike them down as a valid excuse to redact or withhold files.

Yeah, I know this but they do not have to put them below the actual photos. They have to on a separate oversight documents provide context but DOJ has not broadly published separate oversight documents or detailed redaction justifications for most of the redactions tied to the Epstein files yet, even though the law requires that they do so. The way these files are being handled is disgraceful.

Republicans clearly want everything released, because they don't want the Epstein files issue hanging over their heads, come midterm elections (or even primaries, if MAGA candidates challenge them). But it is widely rumored that dozens of people have copies of the Epstein files, and there is a type of mutually assured destruction going on here: If Trump releases too much and burns some of Epstein's clients like Bill Clinton, then Bill Clinton might leak his own version of the files to the media which buries Trump.

Trump doesn't have any good choices. Either continue the cover-up, or bury himself.

Epstein wasn't even arrested until 2019 though. Or, arrested for the 2nd time I should say. How much material existed prior to 2016? Stands to reason that whatever material the government has compiled on Epstein over the years, it is much more extensive today.

The 2019 grand jury testimony and everything from Maxwell's trial would all be missing, for example.
