I would have no problem believing that they never met, and I certainly have no problem believing John Lewis doesn't recall meeting some field organizer 60 years ago. Anyone seriously trying to ascribe insidious motives to Lewis, who is about as no nonsense a guy who has ever entered politics, was looking to drive a wedge or whine unnecessarily as far as I'm concerned.
No, I'm not. But I think a picture of them 40 feet away has the same value as a picture of then 20 feet away (or a picture of them together 60 years later): absolutely none at all. So I'll trust the word of the persons themselves. If Sanders said they met and Lewis said he didn't remember meeting him, I'll presume that they met and that Lewis doesn't remember it.
But that wasn't what Lewis was implying in that statement which was given after a very specific question from a reporter about Bernie's civil rights work - 'I never met Sanders, ...... I've met Bill and Hillary Clinton'
The implication is that Bill and Hillary were some sort of civil rights activists (certainly more so than Bernie) that Lewis had known from back in the day - clearly not the case.
