Eddie Hall vs Thor - March 19th

I genuinely don’t understand how people can think Eddie Hall is more likeable than Thor.
Because in 2017 Eddie was a lot more humble and Thor was a brat constantly - he was the heir apparent so he was kind of a diva too
Also the language barrier

but Thor in the past couple years on YouTube is legitimately likeable he doesn’t have a huge personality but his relationships and friendships with his team and even people like Martins are great

eddies fine but he’s a bit of an asshole
A likeable asshole but certainly an asshole

Decent fight. Great composure by Thor after both were swinging in first 30s. Eddie is such a dissapointment after having 2 years of preparation, spaming one trick over arm haymaker. Thor need to learn to overwhelm or apply pressure when smeling blood.

The best thing about this fight is there were no clinch from both side.

It's not like it would have mattered, but that second knockdown of Thor was from a punch and should have counted, thus making the final score 57-55 vs 57-54. The difference between Thor and Eddie knockdowns was Eddie seemed to catch Thor off balance, where as Thor legit cracked and dropped him. Both have some chins on them. Eddie got that massive block head from all that tren, so it is not surprising that he can take a smack.

Thor was definitely a drama queen and would’ve still lost even with the extra rep on the Viking press, but let’s not pretend Eddie didn’t benefit from a tailored deadlift competition in 2016 and WSM in 2017. Thor wasn’t the only one to remark at the changes in events in 2017.

Joe is 100% right.

Thor looks a million times better than Eddie. Not just in terms of punching technique. As Joe points out, Thor looks far more fluid and relaxed. His overall body coordination and mechanical transfer of power is superior. His head position and shell are better. Even his footwork and balance blows Eddie's out of the water.

I'm impressed by how good Thor looks. I'm a bit stunned give his superior athletic history that Eddie looks so poor.

Huh? Show the video where Eddie looks good. I just checked out some PEB shared the other night, and Rogan is right: Eddie looks awful.

About this fight, again, Thor looks really, really good for someone with as little experience as he has in that fight. He lets his elbows flare too often, needs to keep them tighter, but he does a great job of keeping his hands up, even not too badly in the 2nd round when he gets tired, and he does a good job of bringing them back to his head after throwing. He is charging a bit too recklessly, but he isn't overextending his feet, and he's shifting beautifully to adjust when his opponent strafes away at the end of his charge.

His balance is good. He is good at gauging range. He maintains his posture well when he's moving backwards, and he keeps his feet pretty light.

He's breathing well, and he's not too tense. When he paws with his jab, he's not being stupid about it. He's blinding his opponent, finding his range, but he doesn't leave it out too long, or after getting too close to his opponent, and brings it back to his head. Even when he wings those hooks, he usually does a good job of only throwing one at a time so that he always has one hand defensively somewhere close to his head.

When he gets close, he doesn't fight stupid, and start trying to blast the guy because he's in range. He hugs, and waits for the break so that he can fight again at range with his superior reach. That's important because it shows that he isn't letting his opponent's elusiveness frustrate him. Despite failing to land much when he comes forward early, he stays true to the plan. That shows discipline.

That's impressive because most amateurs in their first fight, like Bas points out, go crazy. Their adrenaline gets the better of them, completely.

Until I see something where Eddie doesn't look like a hulk wound tighter than a witch with her own broom up her ass, my money is on Thor.
Went about as I expected though I'll give Eddie credit for that firecracker grit.

He also gets props for adopting a lot of unorthodox tactics we've seen some of the more experienced, great boxers adopt over the years; particularly those with less favorable biometric attributes for boxing. He made it closer than I expected.

Two ton Tony reincarnated.

Lifting weights doesn't mark you a super hard puncher. If it did all boxers would just be trying to get bench prs

But these two are way more than just bench press homies.

Their core strength is nutty. And, as you admitted… getting decked by one of these guys would be very bad.

Of course they’re not professional boxers.
But, “professional boxing” as we have understood that phrase… seems to be greatly hurting. It’s matches like these (Arm wrestlers, bodybuilders, powerlifters, Youtubers tiktokers) that are winning over the fans. Sad, but it’s true.

These freak fights are actually wonderful for boxing, as they bring in a new demographic of normies. Once these new people get a taste, they want to learn more, find out what separates good from poor boxing, and before you know it they are taking lessons and buying cards. An if you are a boxer, you're salivating over the prospect of a pay day to fight a Paul bro - it generates more money and it is an easier fight.

That wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting.

two guys that big going 6 rounds?
Impressive
Not just big guys, 300+ pounders with abs. Eddie is a freak athlete, was the national champion swimmer before he got in strong man, and in strong man he ended up dominating men much larger than him. There is something to be said about that kind of determination paired with such a physical. Modern strongman is now taking the 1 percenters in dedication/determinaton/mental game/will and the 1 percenters in physical gifts; you have to be top of the food chain in both now a days, simply being determined or strong is not enough, you need both.

Eddie is massive… and the way he could move his torso to avoid shots was something.
I agree. He is getting shit now, and maybe deservedly so for his antics and shit talk, but he was using more advanced type tactics and sometimes having alot of success with them. Our resident Sherbro hw champ, Tim Witherspooon, would have a field day picking him apart as he believes in a high guard and hates when amateurs try to imitate guys like Roy Jones and Prince Naseem w/out learning the basics, but it did seem like Eddie and his team put alot of thought into the chess/mental aspects of their game plan and tried to catch Thor off guard......it actually worked for a bit, but Eddie blew his energy. It's very, very rare you see a 300 pound man try to fight like Naseem Hamed, or have the athleticism to pull that style off.

Even from the first bell, Eddie stood orthodox and then hopped to southpaw with a big shit eating grin on his face ---- you could see he relished the mental aspects of the game and had a lot of confidence in himself. It seemed like he really loves this game and I hope he stays with it. I kind of think had Thor not gotten all these fights in and Eddie faced him last year, Eddie beats him. It was Thor's composure and experience that got him out of the jam, and at times - like with that one-two or pumping the jab - he looked almost like a polished middleweight in there.

These guys could fight every day of the week and I would watch it. I hope both fight others but I would still love to see a rematch, especially if Eddie gets more ring time and gets a little more polished.

Awesome fight. A pleasure to watch live. I watched it on the Kenny KO stream, shame that video got flagged for copyright. That was a good quality stream.

Full fight

That moment you realize you fucked up:

I would argue that every knockdown punch thrown was probably heavier than anything George Foreman, Earnie Shavers or Mike Tyson ever threw. Similar to Bob Sapp when he used to smack opponents to the floor.

However, the rest of what they do isn't anywhere close to Foreman's or Tyson's ability.

Their lack of stamina didn't shine through due to their inactivity. They could have went 24 rounds like that... I guess deep inside they didn't really want to fight.

Eddie needs to drop about 50 lbs to have a chance.

Thor has clearly molded his body more closer to that of a boxer's than just a strongman.

Lol. This thread was interesting until people started to compare their boxing & power to all time greats at both. Let's not carried away.

Both Thor & Eddie landed some flush full power shots that they both ate.... No way in hell that either of them eat those same shots from a Wilder ,Foreman, or an Iron Mike.
They both had very good power but nothing compared to a pro HWs known for power.
