There is a supercharged political rhetoric with constant bystanders trying to prevent you from doing your job, sophisticated facial recognition technology, and people actively doxing people on social media platforms across the country.
On top of that, doxing would jeopardize future undercover operations. Imagine John Q. Citizen out there is taking videos of this agent and posting it on social media. The picture of this agent’s posted, then their address is posted. It’s ‘go over to this house and protest in front of this person’s house.’ ‘Oh, this person has a 15-year-old son. That son goes to this school.’
That’s extremely scary for these agents. And they have every legal right to wear them as well. There is no federal law that forbids federal law enforcement personnel from wearing masks. Which they don't even always wear BTW.
