It may be a subtle difference, but I felt you implied that it was a deliberate act, whereas I am blaming mere incompetence due to shitty American private healthcare where profit is a motive for lack of effort to dissuade people in such a situation. Further, the lack of informed consent appears to be attached to the surgeries, not the puberty blockers.

There is very little to be concerned about with delaying puberty via medication. If you stop taking it, you will go through puberty after all. Surgery is, of course, a totally different thing, and should be accompanied by long term counselling before it gets to that point, as has always been the process for anyone transitioning to a different gender identity as far as I have known since I first heard of "sex change operations" in the 70's. If this individual's parents and doctor didn't ensure she was properly taken care of that is on them; it isn't evidence the entire idea of transgender youth is bad--it's an anecdote and anecdotes aren't worth a fuck.

Deliberate as in know a boy is a boy but trick them to take girl hormones? No. Misled that this is in their best interests, despite the kids not being mature enough to understand the future impacts of that decision? Rather than encouraging other options more? And the kid allowed to carry on even though everyone knows kids that age make poor decisions and often change their minds massively 6 months later on the things they're interested in? Yes. I see that as misleading. It's being hand waved that this is a "normal" action for someone who, during the puberty development years, feels awkward in their body. Rather than recognizing those awkward feelings are normal for the vast majority at that time, And in a little bit they'll feel more comfortable without drastic life altering action.

Not a great analogy, but it's not unlike how many were misled by career counselors that taking on student debt would be fine, they'll make more than those payments back in the long run. And now we see how many that student loan debt was a massive mistake.

Those career counselors weren't deliberately trying to saddle those kids with a lifetime of irreparable debt. But they did push for one outcome, influencing the kid to make a major decision, and the kid not fully understanding all the connotations of it. And weren't adequately presented other options that might fit them better. .

on to the topic, I don’t think kids should be able to choose any kind of meds/surgery’s until they are 18. I think even if parents and kids agree there should be a screening and a waiting process it can ruin their life forever who know what the long term mental effects. I think in Canada kids can get all that done and if parents try to stop them they can get into legal trouble. Kids are greatly influenced and also easily follow trends( pop culture, style , clothes, music ect) .. not saying every case of how they feel is wrong but for sure there are some ones out there like the OP story

Sorry but acting like the medical community could possibly have enough information to reasonably discern long term effects of taking pills to delay puberty in kids is madness. Not trying to be a dick, but big pharma execs would read a post like yours and probably ejaculate in their pants. Coupled with a societal push in the direction of gender fluidity, they see massive dollar signs in having these drugs prescribed as much as possible and then most likely cashing in on the back end when these kids "need" massive cocktails of other drugs to "unfuck" their heads because of all this craziness.

Kids at these ages are confused about pretty much EVERYTHING. We are seriously at the point where as a society we're like "Meh, sure, let's chemically block all these confused kid's natural bodily growth with drugs until they sort things out. It's fine, can't be any long term ramifications, nah." I mean, that's just fucking lunacy.

If a 13 year old boy decides he's a girl and he's gonna live his life as a female...**shrug**. Fine. Whatever safe and non permanent cosmetic changes that kid wants to do is on them. Go for it. But adults giving pills to block puberty...what the actual fuck.
