Economy Donald trump to impose Tariffs feb.1st.

Tariffs do not mean "putting its people first" - also, US is already the largest and most powerful economy in the world, why fuck over your allies in trade wars? so you could be first first?
Who exactly are America’s allies? All the countries currently swamping themselves with third world islamists?

As JD Vance said, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Britain will be an Islamist nation very soon.

We already know the answer because tariffs from his first term didn’t bring jobs back. Trump misses the point completely. He fails to understand (or maybe doesn’t care) that corporations don’t give a single fuck about the American working class. China will just use factories from another country or American companies will simply find another country to exploit cheap labor. Trump needs to actually throw down regulation on this company but sadly GOP is all about deregulation. https://econofact.org/factbrief/did-the-trump-tariffs-increase-us-manufacturing-jobs
I agree with some of the points, GOP is all about deregulation but not all the way. If company's think they will all stay in the same boat collectively passing the tariff funds to the consumer, I think they will be wrong. A company will break the stride and make their products in USA and sell if for cheaper. I think some sort of control reset should happen. I still think countries will chicken out and bend the knee and if not, we will see if Trump is a complete failure or not with this. I think its harder to predict then what people realize due to many moving pieces. And Trump is unpredictable.

I made a thread on topic of US allies - most agreed, that only Israel is left as a true ally because for some reason US governments will bend over backwards for israel (no matter who the US president)
Trump made sure that Canada, Mexico and EU shouldn't count on US support/trade anymore.

If we do I haven't seen it.

he was thinking of Camfil.

You think this is about tariffs?

Tariffs are leverage.
A means to an end.

Congratulations on learning that obvious fact.
Well duh, but it isn’t a good means to that end. In fact, it probably isn’t a means to those ends because I don’t think they are going to work. He also tried this same thing with China last term, and it was a disaster. Why on earth would we think that is expanding that policy to encompass several countries would be good? This article is worth reading (as well as the studies on tariffs that it links to in the article).

It’s really great how just a couple months ago, it was all about prices being too high and “only Trump can fix it,” and now that hes been elected he’s just like, “Nah, fuck you Middle Class, get ready for pain instead” and you guys are like “oh ok, I guess we’re doing that then.” Great job guys.

Oh thats not true at all.
For decades at this point these nations have accepted our military protection & federal aid, and what have we received in return?

Go ahead, list all the benefits we've received in exchange for the billions they've received every year.

With Mexico it's been particularly offensive because they've allowed their cartels to thrive, trafficking illegal drugs and people across our border for decades.

So all the whining and crying from their President? Fuck her.
And fuck Trudeau.

Not buying the 'Trumps trade war failed' talking point.
Sure it had its drawbacks, but it was working until Biden got into office and basically gave China whatever they wanted. Brilliant move.

It's been a pretty fucking awesome first two weeks.
Think Trump has earned the credibility to keep cooking.

So what are you exactly admitting to that your intelligence has a low ceiling when actually important stuff is at risk ? I guess so ?
No, it means if you can’t tell me how many genders there are then I can’t trust you with anything.

This is correct. All trade wars and wars in general do is just consolidate power. Those companies that will drown under these tariffs will be bought by another corporation for pennies lowering the power of the American workforce (Mexican and Canadian as well). I think that's the point though because while the public argument is what have those countries done for us through all these years I think the true argument is how can we get workers to accept less and work more? Trump and Musk said these changes would be hurtful and cause pain but we all know who gets the pain of these tariffs.

Speaking of this, one aspect of this situation that frustrates me a lot is that Canada failed to learn that lesson the first time Trump was president and enacted tariffs on us. I said at the time that the one bright side might be if we took it as sign we need to diversify our trade relationships. Hopefully, a second slap in the face will get people to wake up, and move their heads to avoid getting slapped a third time.

Is your body ready for Big Daddy Trump?

He's kinda right though.

These tariffs are ridiculous, the epitome of hubris and ignorance imo. And it's Trumps narcissism that's driving things. But the Dems are so fucking disconnected, they can't communicate why this is such a big deal on a broad scale--in layman's terms. They're stuck between this pandering to the every man schtick ("they're gonna jack up the price of your beer!") and sounding like pompous elites talking down on people.

Like...this really shouldn't be tough to sell to the American people as to why it's a massive overreach and bad for the economy. Trump's ego has given them a softball, and they're still (so far anyway) whiffing.

yes let's make enemies of our allies and neighbors and attempt to beat them into submission with economic tariffs. What could go wrong? This seems incredibly short sighted but hey, a wins a win right?

Trump didn't get us into selling oil to the US at a market discount. Our stupidity goes much further back.

@Cajun i just don’t know what deal there is to be made. Both Mexico and Canada already gave in to the border rhetoric.

Seems to be a longer term plan, perhaps to bring some manufacturers back? Get people to switch from their products to ones made in the US?

will be interesting to see the currency strength graph a week from now.

Seeing Canada act like a boycott of American products is going to do anything is cute though lol
Did Canada agree to strengthen the border? Must have missed that. Ultimately I think meeting with them working on something is better than throwing tariffs within 3 weeks of presidency. Trump needs to be clear on what he is looking for in an agreement.

Time to stock up on beans and ammo. The Trump induced recession is going to be brutal. Hungry people make irrational decisions.
Only took Trump 2 weekends of golf to fuck up Bidens economy. Hopefully nobody is planning to retire in the next 4 years because your IRA is going to look like the elevator/Hallway scene in The Shining, it is going to be a giant wave of red.
