Economy Donald trump to impose Tariffs feb.1st.

According to an expert on CBC Radio just now, retaliatory tariffs imposed by Canada and Mexico could hit US economic growth to the tune of 1.5%. It's currently at 2.5%.

If you think we can't extract a heavy price for a trade war because of the size difference I expect you will find out otherwise before long. Good luck.

Bring it on. USA is the villain here and the people need to experience as much pain as possible to understand a lesson. Sad it has to come to this but I'd rather experience the pain quickly that hopefully leads to change than a slow death.

Well, that's what Co-President Elon Musk said..

"Musk told voters to expect some "temporary hardship" as he aims to drastically reduce federal spending"

Welcome to the suck. But don't worry! Elon will be just fine! :)

Everyone must make a sacrifice, for the good of the billionaires! But don't worry, all of that money they're looting out of the federal government will eventually trickle back down. Trust them.

I think he was referring more to the cuts he's going to make in DOGE. This coupled on top of that and we're fuuuuuuucked.

Is “boooooo” French Canadian for “double the tariffs”?

How did, overnight, the mexicans become the bad guys? I was completely on board with the reigning in of the seemingly abused h1b program. But to cultivate an environment inviting to illegal labor for decades. To deporting the matriarch and patriarch of families and burdening the American taxpayer with yet another bill to foot. And to add some icing, we'll bully who should be 2 of our strongest allies for our decades of failures. Its impressive really, quite a feat just to own the libs.

As a Canadian where am I supposed to see these price hikes? For gas?
I wouldn't expect much for gas unless this trade negotiation drags on and escalates for an extended period of time. The tariffs on energy related products were also only applied at 10% since it would have the most impact on the US economy at least until the results of the administration's corresponding energy policy initiatives take effect.

If you believe the theory that tariffs hurt the citizens then you as a Canadian will be heavily impacted by the retaliatory tariffs Canada will apply. Additionally if you do believe the argument that US tariffs hurt Americans, you would really have to ask yourself why Canada's response is to impose corresponding tariffs on the US.
