Economy Donald trump to impose Tariffs feb.1st.

As a citizen of the great Canuckistan land i gotta say that i haven't seen Canada so united about an issue since.....a fucking long time. All parties and all premiers of each province formed one front and all approved counter tarrifs and other measures specific to each provinces.

No more American booze here in Quebec liquor stores (SAQ). Ontario is doing the same. And this is probably just the beginning

Are you kidding right now? You’re on here all the time spewing maga talking points.

Even if you support him, you can’t possibly think this policy is a good one.
What am I spewing?

1. that men can't be women
2. that the solution to racism is not more racism
3. that people shouldn't just be allowed to enter a country illegally

Are those maga talking points, or is that just basic common sense everyone could agree on just a decade ago?

If you're trying to have a good faith argument then at least address my views accurately instead of your shitty strawman "oooh look maga talking points" spin just to get some likes from the rest of the leftie circle jerk.

As for this particular policy, I never said it's good, the very first thing I said about it on this thread was that I'm not a fan of it. I don't pretend to know what the long term outcome is. My only comment was that Canada gets no respect right now, and we shouldn't be surprised because we elected then re-elected Turdo who helped drive this country off a cliff and now we're supposed to blame Trump's tariffs when we were fucked long before anyone ever mentioned tariffs.

Is there anything that you care more about than trans-people and twitter ragebait?

I only care about truth, and that is the most blatant and dishonest lie that's too easy to point out... yes low hanging fruit, but it's just obvious that anyone able to lie about that is able to lie about anything and should not be trusted at all.

So yeah, truth, more important than my own life imo.

If Steve wants to go by Sally, how will your life change? IMO, these tariffs hurt you more than the pronouns or names that a person goes by. If you are super objective, why are you so obsessed with Christianity?

@Cajun i just don’t know what deal there is to be made. Both Mexico and Canada already gave in to the border rhetoric.

Seems to be a longer term plan, perhaps to bring some manufacturers back? Get people to switch from their products to ones made in the US?

will be interesting to see the currency strength graph a week from now.

Seeing Canada act like a boycott of American products is going to do anything is cute though lol

There is nothing wrong with having a trade deficit.

A much larger country will naturally buy more from a much smaller country and if that smaller country is resource rich, that gap only get bigger.

If the US did not want a trade deficit then they should buy less oil, lumber and other resources from Canada. over the prior hundred years, but then they would have been buying them from another country also creating a deficit.

Trump seeing a trade deficit as a 'subsidy' shows he has a toddler like understanding of economics. It is truly pathetic how stupid he is.

The trade deficit thing is just boomer politics from the 80s and 90s. There used to be Nightline specials with Ted Koppel raising the alarm about some trade deficit with some random country. Trump is a TV addict stuck in the 20th century so it makes sense that he's obsessed with it.

You sound like the type of guy I would love to do business with. Hit me up so and I'll trade you my $1 bills for your $100 bills for as many as you have. I kid, but there is absolutely a lot wrong with having a net trade deficit across the world when you are a huge, very diverse , resource rich and the strongest military power in the world. The US has over a $1trillion trade deficit with NATO countries most of which don't even bother to meet the military spending minimum of the alliance while also buying all of their shit from the countries they count on the US to protect them from.

Bro, talk about pathetic, how bad must your life be knowing you are so much smarter than Donald Trump while he is a multibillionaire, President of the United States, gets his own walk out and sits cage side at UFC events and here your genius ass is responding to my stupid posts on a karate forum.

Here is where we are in Canada.

Freeland was on CNN's Fareed Zakaria Sunday show. SHe actually sounded sensible last week when interviewed by Bloomberg, unfortunately she just merc'd herself today.

Q: are you looking at other countries to become your customers? (a completely logical question)

Freeland: nah, we just want them to go back to the way they were with US.

WTF? So the US just slapped this tariffs on all Canadian goods and she is hoping that things just go back to the they way were? What? How?

Carney sounds like the most competent person (at the moment), unfortunately he does his best speaking on the BBC  I was with him until he said that Canada 'might form a carbon trading partnership block'.

You always come at me from a trolling angle so I admit I'm reluctant to engage in a serious argument with you, but in good faith I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you're seriously asking me, I'll give you my answer. I was born behind the Iron curtain under a totalitarian dictator, and no not a wanna be one like some out there today, but a real bonafide dictator who ruled with an iron fist for nearly 40 years, and who punished dissent by sending you to a prison island or simply liquidating you permanently. My grandparents and parents knew this reality much better than me as I was just a child and for me life didn't seem all that strange, but I heard enough horror stories from people who lived it to now as an adult understand all too well what happens when people agree to go along with one little lie for the sake of not rattling the hornets nets... and then another... and then another... all the way to the point where the lies became your reality and questioning them meant your life.

I don't care if its just Steve wanting to be Sally, or if it's Barbara wanting to be Bobby... I don't care how harmless and well meaning it may seem on the surface.... as Ayn Rand famously said, "I'm not brave enough to be a coward". I think the cost of being silent when you should speak up, and the cost of lying when you should tell the truth is simply too great in the long run.

And where do you get that I'm "obsessed"with Christianity?

The federal Conservatives under Poilievre and the Alberta government under Smith want to sell out the rest of Canada to Trump in exchange for his support heading into the next election. Smith went to Mar a Lago to see him and came back with his cock still in her mouth.

Seems a pretty common pattern with them. During Trump's first term when he forced re-negotiation of NAFTA, Stephen Harper was flapping his yap and publicly undermining Canada's position. This time around he was at it again and he's got Smith and Poilievre doing the same. Fuck all those traitorous bitches.

You lot have been begging for an election for months because the longer we go without one, the better chance the Liberals have of regaining lost ground.
Called it (probably). The lower tariff on oil, 10% instead of 25% is because Smith cut a side deal with Trump, I expect.

Mark Carney is another World Economic Forum shill like Trudeau.

Poilievre is obviously the most competent candidate, unless you're only talking about the Liberals.

You would not be able to do business with me as what you say is so incredibly stupid.

Canada is a very small country population wise. But we have tons of resources including oil.

The US has always been the main buyer of those resources BECAUSE THEY NEED THEM.

The US was NOT giving $100 bill for $1 worth of oil. They were giving us $100 bill for $100 worth of oil. Why would you say something so stupid?

When you are buying Oil and other resources to benefit a country with 10 times the population of Canada the idea that 1/10th the population will be able to buy an equivalent amount stuff back in to Canada so there is a trade balance is ludicrous and stupid.

Trump is a very stupid man. Trump himself would have a trade deficit with every supplier to his golf courses and resorts. They would provide him more goods and services then they would buy golf rounds or hotel stays from him.

Trump said he was gonna be strong on China. Instead he goes after his allies. What a badass. Meanwhile he puts 10% on China.
Tesla would be really hurt by the sanctions in China. As it is now, US made vehicles which rely on Canada and Mexico will be hurt more with a bigger price increase, meaning Tesla will be a winner if that Tariff is only 10%.

Lmao wtf ever dude. Pretend you’re not a Trump fangirl then, all the while you’re in here talking about how your country gets what it deserves.

Fucking weak shit dude. You’re right, your country is weak and you’re leading the way in that regard. I’m gonna need you to reach down in your draws and untuck for me before you respond again pretending you aren’t all into this maga shit.

Aside from the oil from Alberta that the US get's at a major discount we are at a trade deficit to you...That means we buy more from you then you do us. Not sure who has been advising Trump about this but it seems he is comfortable lying about everything at tis point. You may gain some manufacturing jobs at some point but with the food you get from Mexico and various materials from Canada life will be more expensive for the average American and lost jobs as well as Canada will hit back with the massive amount of things we buy from you.
Anyone with an economic degree will tell you this is sense less and will cause more destruction then anything else
