honestly 95% cats are more useful because a large percent are extremely efficient vermin hunters. What matters is that dogs can actually be useful unlike cats.
It has been proven time and time again over hundreds of years. Dogs are used by police and other law enforcement agencies to catch criminals, find drugs, weapons (guns, bombs), etc. There's service dogs meant for 'emotional support' that have saved lives and probably do almost every day around the world.
They can be taught to protect your house and family from intruders. Dogs can be trained to have legitimate professions and all that. Some cats are cool, but the majority of them f'n suck. Most of them are lame and boring, whereas most dogs have a great personality and are always happy to see you and hangout with you.
So not only are dogs useful for saving lives and actually doing jobs, they're also great for companionship. There's very smart cats out there that are actually great pets and trained to do things to help out, but like I said, most cats just suck. I'm not saying all dogs are great either, but overall they're better pets, friends, etc.
So whether cats are more intelligent or not (they aren't, they're lazy and boring), dogs are more useful. It doesn't matter if the cat is more intelligent or not because they usually just lay around and do nothing all day for the most part, just like the big cats in the wild. They're dirty little fuckers too. Stinky bastards.
I'd rather have a dog that wants to chill instead of a cat that's like: "feed me and leave me alone or else I'll claw your fucking face off". The only time a cat is really useful is for catching rodents that somehow get into the house. Cats will take out the rodents, dogs will take out intruders. Or they'll take out the trash. They'll grab you a beer from the fridge. Dogs can be trained to do just about anything. Cats can fook aff.

Dogs definitely have more uses though. But most people’s dogs are neither trained nor bred for any use though
