Dogs are smarter than cats, study finds - BS

I bet a dog would run around in circles and look up at its owner for food.

Means a lot coming from a person who's very existence is making the world a worse place.

<{outtahere}>

It is a simple fact, you are the one that took it personally. Says a lot about yourself. Actually most of your posts are very hostile. It must suck to get picked on every day of your life and have to use sherdog as your safe space.

You're all over the place. You take the internet way too serious. Relax.

I don't get what behaviors cats exhibit that makes them smart. Smart is the ability to learn to solve problems. Pretty much everything a little piece of shit fur ball does is predatory instinct. A cat will chase a red laser dot forever because its pea brain will never let it learn that it can't be caught.
My black lab will chase a tennis ball until he has heart failure. My cats will will, after five minutes of no success, turn up their noses at the laser and then take a nap.

Dogs do have larger brains so I suppose it isn’t too much of a stretch to think they’re smarter on average, but cats are fucking clever. Scary smart. And big cats are even more intelligent. Would also kill any canine in an instant. Shit, I’ve seen house cats punk out 90lbs dogs.

My family had a German Shepard / Great Dane mix named Zigfreid when I was a toddler. The dog was awesome. It was a huge, loving, horse of a dog. Some asshole stole him from a friend's yard when we were on vacation. The dog rolled in dead birds and once ate its own vomit. I'm sure there's a reason for doing so, but it's pretty gross and stupid at first glance.

After the dog we had a cat. Huge grey and white female named Fuzzy. She killed squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, birds and mice. She laid each mouse on our front step. Only the mice. She sent the neighbor's German Shepard howling away after it attacked her and she nearly took the dog's eye. She had a gravity feed food dish that gave more food when she stepped on a wide lever.

I think there are smart dogs. I think there are smart cats. The smartest and best trained dog might appear or actually be smarter than the smartest cat but my opinion is that cats are smarter on average.

Heres the thing.. they gave the Dogs and Cats various tests to do and test them.. BUT the thing is you can't make a Cat do anything, Cats have very very very strong personalities, if they don't want to do something they won't! or they will do it in their own time, and a Cats "own time" can be a few days haha. Dogs you can make them do anything, they are very trainable and they are so nervous and excited all the time that they can't wait to do what you taught them. They will do it then pee pee themselves on the floor after.

If the Dogs passed higher in the tests then I am not surprised at all, its very believable, because Like I said they will do basically anything for you if they trust you. Cats know how to do it all but they don't give a sh*t and have nothing to prove.

Yup. Dogs have a much greater desire to please humans. It makes them easier to train but not necessarily smarter.

People around here need to work on their sentence structure. The thread title conveys that dogs are smarter than cats, and in other news a study found some bullshit.

Didn't my main point of not wanting to pick up something elses shit make it obvious that I wasn't talking about house cats? I personally don't agree with it, they always seem like they want to make a break for it.

I had a cat that use to come to my house, I would feed it and let it chill for a bit then it would go on with its day, maybe even soak some rays of sun in the garden. This is going to sound sad but it really made my day when it use to come by. However during the summer when I was away on holiday, my dad came to stay with the family and his wife who was allergic, kept on shooing it away every time it came until one day it didn't. I really dispise her for that, if she didn't want to be around cats she should have fucked off back home. I still leave food outside sometimes hoping it will return but I'm starting to think it either got ran over or some nighbour has decided the best thing for the cat is to be locked in thier house shitting all over the floor.

This is one of the things that makes cats so awesome. They can actually have their own lives and adventures that their owners never even know about. I love meeting a random cat while I'm walking late at night and befriending it, completely unbeknownst to its owner.

What matters is that dogs can actually be useful unlike cats.

It has been proven time and time again over hundreds of years. Dogs are used by police and other law enforcement agencies to catch criminals, find drugs, weapons (guns, bombs), etc. There's service dogs meant for 'emotional support' that have saved lives and probably do almost every day around the world.

They can be taught to protect your house and family from intruders. Dogs can be trained to have legitimate professions and all that. Some cats are cool, but the majority of them f'n suck. Most of them are lame and boring, whereas most dogs have a great personality and are always happy to see you and hangout with you.

So not only are dogs useful for saving lives and actually doing jobs, they're also great for companionship. There's very smart cats out there that are actually great pets and trained to do things to help out, but like I said, most cats just suck. I'm not saying all dogs are great either, but overall they're better pets, friends, etc.

So whether cats are more intelligent or not (they aren't, they're lazy and boring), dogs are more useful. It doesn't matter if the cat is more intelligent or not because they usually just lay around and do nothing all day for the most part, just like the big cats in the wild. They're dirty little fuckers too. Stinky bastards.

I'd rather have a dog that wants to chill instead of a cat that's like: "feed me and leave me alone or else I'll claw your fucking face off". The only time a cat is really useful is for catching rodents that somehow get into the house. Cats will take out the rodents, dogs will take out intruders. Or they'll take out the trash. They'll grab you a beer from the fridge. Dogs can be trained to do just about anything. Cats can fook aff.

I think people like to romantically link a lot of feline behaviors as smart in some born to run, I’mma do me kind of way, but the truth is cats are far less domesticated than dogs. They are almost like halfway between domesticated and habituated.
