Dogs are smarter than cats, study finds - BS

It's not that cats lack the capacity to understand commands, they're just not interested in listening to you. On a fundamental level their brain is just not wired to be social, at best it's a "together, but alone and seperate" kind of social. Dogs are true social animals, they naturally synergise better with humans.

I bet a dog would run around in circles and look up at its owner for food.

@Cint

We but a small bell a collar and hung if from out back door. When we were house training our rottie we drew his attention to the bell and gave it a wack every time we took him out. He learned pretty quick to smack the bell when he wants to go out. He will smack it then lay down in front of the door. If we don't come in a bit he smacks it again then comes looking for us.

We shared that info with my sister and she trained both of hers to the bell to go out.

The most successful hunters on earth are African Wild Dogs.

Because they hunt in packs - I'm not too sure how well you are going to train/raise a group of wild undomesticated dogs to hunt for you.

As solitary animals, a cat is a better hunter than a dog.

A lot of people in this thread would be amazed at now only how smart my best friend cat is, but also how affectionate.

I laugh every time someone says "cats dont really care about you, at least not like a dog"

My cat shows me more affection than many many dogs Ive seen towards their owners.

Being able to be trained/follow orders does not indicate higher intelligence.

I think it probably depends on the dog. Some dogs are extremely smart. Some dogs are fucking retarded.

Cats are a little more consistent, but I bet the smartest dog is waaaaaay smarter than the smartest cat.

You just perfectly described the difference between men and women

Show me a cat that can respond to a plethora of commands intelligently and I'll buy that they are smarter. I think their animalistic nature and independence can lead you to believe they may be.

You can train dogs to do almost anything.

They also evolved from wolves, who have larger brains (especially relative to body mass) than any cat species. Cats rely on their physical weapons and incredible speed and reflexes. Canines rely on intelligence and ability to work in groups, similar to humans.
