I’ve killed a lot of coyotes in my time. P4p I don’t think they’re nearly as viscous as foxes.
Sidenote: killing them all near farms ruins farms because there isnt enough of them to eat mice, moles, and gophers. Soil gets tilled too much and roots are eaten. Boom dead crops.
I’ve seen some BIG coyotes in the woods here, I’ve often thought they must be wolf/yote mixes.Apparently we have coywolves on Long Island, but I've never seen one. Wolves usually kill coyotes, but apparently some in eastern Canada couldn't find mates, so they fucked some coyotes. Their offspring traveled down New York and got onto the Island through the subways. iirc they're part domestic dog too. Like 60% coyote, 30% wolf, 10% dog.
Dobermans are known dumbasses. I’ve never seen a really smart one. When I lived in Nevada for about a half year, my neighbors Doberman chased a coyote out into the hills/desert. According to my neighbor it was clear the Coyote was baiting him. The Doberman never came back. Likely got clever girl’d after they were out of sight. I thought Dobermans were smarter but I guess there’s always a dumbass
It seems too me, that coyotes are more than happy to fill in the gaps left by wolf populations dwindling in areas and are much more comfortable living in closer proximity to people.Btw for those saying to kill all the coyotes, that’s one of the reasons they have spread across the entire country. Coyotes weren’t historically found in New England, but a lack of larger predators left db opening they were glad to fill. The more coyotes you kill, the more they breed and we have the largest coyotes in the country in New England. Fascinating animals and extremely intelligent
To the OP, be lucky your kita never ran into a pack. A pack of yotes would have fucked up your kita. One on one coyotes aren’t much trouble it’s when they are in a group they get more dangerous and they are best when in a pack as this is how they typically hunt big game when they can.
Don’t let your ego and Internet stories get your dogs Hurt. At the end of the day they are dogs, and coyotes are wild animals. From the stories I'm reading it would take more than a few. And I have 2 Akitas that run together.
I don't want them to risk anything so I don't allow them out alone, but if a pack tried to take on 2 Akitas then they're probably in for a bad day.
They also carry many bad things that could get your dogs very sick or injured even if they did “win”.
Furinstnce?
Rabies is the only one they could contract and it's rare to see a rabid coyote.Rabies, mange, fleas, ticks

in a pack they will fuck them up. And yotes like to bait them into the pack if they are in danger.

I never let them off lead. I'm not taking stupid chances with my dogs.
What I'm saying is that if a pack tried to take on both at once it's not likely to be a good day for the coyotes.
Coyotes range from 18 lbs to 50 lbs at biggest, so we are talking about Akitas - which are vicious killers - being anywhere from 2 to 4 times larger than a coyote with a bite force two to three times as powerful. Coyotes around here typically travel in packs of 4 to 8.
I posted on a 17k people Akita forum and asked about experiences with coyotes and their dogs. So far, out of probably 50 stories posted, no fatalities on the Akita side and plenty of dead coyotes. I shared one of those stories earlier. His Akita took out 4 all by himself.
This isn't ego. It is people sharing their first hand experience. You're sharing zero experience. Therefore I'll believe the first hand stories I'm hearing from all of those people over your concerns.
That doesn't mean I will ignore your warning. As I said, my dogs do not go out alone or off lead. I'm not sending my dogs out to hunt coyotes. I'm not so stupid as to put my dogs in unnecessary risk, even if i believe they'll be able to handle the threat. I was more just interested in hearing stories to gauge how concerned I should be about coyotes taking out my dogs if they're out back together without me. The stories I'm hearing seem to indicate there is little to worry about.
TS just wait til those Akitas run into some game pits
