Rashad by tko
I don't think Rashad looked that good against Silva, IMO Rashad lost that fight 29-28. I could only give Rashad the first round, he didn't have enough control time in rounds 2 and 3 to make up for being out struck in terms of volume and significant strikes. This was back when the judges way overvalued takedowns and control with no damage or sub attempts though.Rashad looked god against Silva and Rmapage before he fought Shogun but he did get rocked against both in the 5th round. Shogun could've definitely caught him.
It has been a while since I've seen the fight. I remember thinking it was a clear 29-28 for Rashad but you are right, at that time judges overvalued takedowns and control so I probably expected the judges to give him the win even if I would've preferred Silva getting the nod instead.I don't think Rashad looked that good against Silva, IMO Rashad lost that fight 29-28. Rashad doesn't have the top control that those guys have. That is why he had to get a lot of takedowns to get a decent amount of control time. His top control wasn't good.Shogun lost to forest, gustafson and chael wrestling him. Coleman was dominating until shogun got injured
That's why I said rashad beats shogun
Yeah with the current judging criteria it would 100% be a win for Thiago he landed a lot more strikes in rounds 2 and 3 and Rashad didn't do anything with his takedowns and Thiago kept just getting back up to land more solid strikes. Rashad won the first round for sure but he didn't have much control time in rounds 2 and 3 and I think he got outlanded by a significant margin in the last 2 rounds. It has been a while since I've seen the fight. Wanderlei had good TDD, it was mostly Shogun that had bad TDD but he was very good at sweeping and getting back to his feet.I think Rua wins. Rashad is a vastly inferior striker compared to Rua being a less good wrestler than Rashad. Rashad can hit hard as shown in the Liddell fight but that is unlikely to happen. Every fight starts standing and Shogun would have 5 chances starting standing each round to destroy Rashad. Also Shogun was always good at getting to his feet and sweeps.
Now that I think of it I do wonder why all the Chute Boxe guys generally were poor at defensive wrestling. They could get to their feet but it is interesting how easy they were to takedown generally speaking.
Now I want to go rewatch the fight.Yeah with the current judging criteria it would 100% be a win for Thiago he landed a lot more strikes in rounds 2 and 3 and Rashad didn't do anything with his takedowns and Thiago kept just getting back up to land more solid strikes. Wrestlers tend not to be as good at getting up off their backs compared to guys with better bjj. IMO that a big part of why Rashad could hold Phil Davis down but couldn't keep Thiago Silva down.and yet part of Jones/Rashad lead up was Jones admitting that Rashad held him down once in practice.
young and Roided jones … the best wrestler LHW has ever seen.
He did but Phil Davis isn't very good off his back. Thiago Silva is much better at getting back up and Rashad couldn't keep him down for shit but he could with Davis. Wrestlers tend not to be as good off their backs as BJJ guys.didn't rashad hold down phil davis? his top control maybe got better? idk.
It's a good fight, definitely worth re-waching.Now I want to go rewatch the fight.
Jones would have been the first to TKO Hendo if this fight happened. Instead Vitor was the man to finish Hendo 2x by KO and Mousasi Tko'd Hendo
Hendo is slow, 1 dimesional striker facing a much taller, stronger opponent. Fedor is similar to Hendos height they are both really 5"11 and at that time both slow also Fedor got caught from under during a grappling exchange. Jones would of wanted to beat Hendo by TKO to be the first to do so at that time. He would of kicked the crap out of Hendos face and legs, and knees, likely damage Hendos knees with those kicks then he would of taken dowk and slammed Hendo moved into side mount or full mount and elbow Hendo until a bloody finish is called.
if he doesn't get injured?
They didn't fight later on either which was sorta odd. I'd say Rashad was a bit fresher at that point as i think Shogun had the knee surgeries and was out a while before that Jones fight
But what say you?
Shogun tapped to Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.

Good question/Thread TS
I think double-leg-blast KO Power Shad is a very underrated fighter these days.
Styles make fights and I think that Prime Shad would have given Shogun a lot of problems.
Prime Shogun would have given Shad problems too.
Bloodbath would be my prediction with a lot of time on the feet and on the mat....
Instant Classic.
Styles make fights, there is a reason Anderson didn't want to fight Shogun when Shogun KOed Machida and wanted to fight Anderson.I forgot Sonnen. I remember Forrest tapping him. It's hilarious people once thought Shogun could be Anderson.
Shogun could barely compete vs 50 year old Silva.
