Does Rashad Evans beat Shogun at 128?

Rashad's takedowns were great but his top control wasn't most of the time, he had to get a lot of takedowns to get a decent amount of control time cause people would just get up.
good point. He did well with that against Phil Davis but he was a wrestler who didn't know how to get up. Rashad fuckin worked him.

Shogun would have probably been different yeah

Definitely possible he does. That belt was a hot potato at that time, that is until Jones showed up.

I think the Hendricks vs Condit fight is kind of a similar fight to what Rashad vs Shogun would have looked like, I think in a 3 rounder I would have favored Rashad but in a 5 round fight I think Shogun either hurts him standing at some point and finishes him or sweeps him and hurts him with GnP and finishes him.

That was like a year or so before Evans fought with Davis and Jones. Most people thought Rashaf looked top notch in those fights.

As a Shogun fan, a bad night for him.

Rashad likely outwrestles Shogun to a pretty easy decision. Especially considering Shogun's limited mobility due to knee problems. Contrary to revisionist history, Shogun was actually great off his back. After the Randleman kneebar, people started believing that Shogun was super dangerous with submissions. He wasn't.

To be fair though in the 1st round its not like Jones smashed Shogun on the ground, he mostly defended from the top.

Shogun is one of my favorites but I’m not sure if he beats a healthy Rashad in the shape he was in for UFC 128. Of course he always has a chance to KO Rashad, I just think he’d be spending all of his energy shrugging off takedowns and trying to get back to his fight, and given the shape of his knees I’m sure that would have sapped a lot of his quickness.

Yes, Rashad was fighting smart and mixing his wrestling and striking together wonderfully at that time.

Yeah. Shogun looked physically washed against Jones and never looked the same again.

Rashad would win early rounds with wrestling but would gas in the 3rd. Shogun wouldve get a late finish or win the last 3 rounds.

It wouldn't have been a blow-out by any means, but I think Rashad's ability to mix up his striking with his level changes into doubles would've rendered Shogun pretty damn tentative on the feet, and allowing Rashad to outpoint him with a solid lead over 5 rounds.

I doubt that Rashad could have dished out the same inhuman amount of punishment that Jones did and so by that, I think Shogun wins by finish in the later rounds
